Root can I use a nandroid backup from one phone onto another?

my EVO that i've had since launch date finally succumbed to a continuous reboot issue and i'm bringing it in to Sprint to get it fixed, but most likely exchanged as it 99% seems like a hardware problem now. i made a nandroid backup before i brought the phone back to stock. just wondering if i can use that on the new phone if they give me one. kind of expecting a "no" answer but just need to make sure

You guessed right, unfortunately. You won't be able to restore a nandroid backup from one phone to another. Nandroid backups require:

1) The same phone
2) The same hboot version (which would likely be another problem for you)
3) The same recovery (CW backup to CW backup; RA backup to RA backup)

oh well. i'm just hoping i'll have a working phone tomorrow night. running the phone stock is so boring haha.

Haha, yeah, I agree. If you had a backup with titanium backup, that can be restored between phones.
