I've tried installing a couple of soft keyboards in my search for one with the ability to insert TAB characters. I've tried Full Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Trial and, in each case, enabled it using the checkbox in the Language and Keyboard settings. However, in every app that I've tried, the old keyboard comes up.
I don't know if it makes a difference, but I've set the default install location to be the SD card using adb, but I've tried moving the soft keyboard app to the phone in each case, and then enabling it in the Settings, and it still hasn't worked: the original keyboard comes up in every app.
The phone is an unlocked, unbranded Desire A8181 running Android 2.2, build number "2.09.405.8 CL218634 release-keys". And I'm hoping that "release-keys" doesn't have anything to do with the problem.
Can anyone shed any light on this, please?
