Can LauncherPro get any more awesome?

It's not as fast as everyone claims. It is only SLIGHTLY faster than stock Sense.

My gripes below. If anyone knows the answer to any of them, please chime in:

1) You can only (that I know of) add an icon/widget/folder/shortcut to the screen you are currently on.

You CANNOT seem to move an icon from one screen to another, as you could with Sense. With Sense, you move the icon onto, say, a larger widget or over another icon (as long as the other icon is not a folder), and the "add" mode will somehow suspend, allowing you to scroll to another screen with the icon you want suspended and ready to be "put" in place.

2) CALLS. When I make a call, I can't click on the phone to see the call in progress. The phone dialer will take my to the dial pad and list of previous calls, even if there is a call in progress.

I know you can get to the call in progress by pulling down the notification bar, but that's really annoying.

3) I lost my Agenda Widget!

The stock, super large and transparent one that came with Sense. I am sure it's an HTC widget, but I just thought of it this morning and realized I couldn't find it. It was so smooth with the scrolling. I have Smooth Calendar but it doesn't let me view the agenda for the entire week like the first widget I had up.

Anyone know which agenda widget I am talking about?

4) Force Closes when I want to add a new shortcut or application. Or, it just takes forever to load the list of shortcuts/apps.

5) Bottom row icon launcher (is this the row of icons at the bottom of every screen?) is not customizable. I saw a screen shot of this with the default camera app in the icon row, INCLUDING the camera's default icon. I also saw HandCent on there with an unread counter. I WANT THIS.

Right now, all the bottom row icons show as these grey, lifeless looking icons: dialer, people, app drawer, sms, browser.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

The version released today allows up to 15 user selected apps to be added to the bottom row. The dock now scrolls to accommodate the additional icons

I have no problem moving apps or widgets from screen to screen.

I'm pretty sure you can't use the HTC widget because it's a sense UI widget and you are no longer using sense UI.

You can't add widgets to the launchers. However, you can customize what shortcuts the launcher uses. Just long press on one of the shortcuts you want to change.

Bearly: I feel you on moving the Apps/Widgets from screen to screen. I know its possible.. because I had no trouble moving a widget from one screen to another that was right of it. However.. when I tried to do the opposite and move one to a left screen.. it wasn't possible. Maybe Launcher needs to increase the buffer zone for the "action spot" to activate a screen move when moving to the left... if that makes any sense.

Yeah, it is possible to go left, but as you said the "action spot" or whatever does need to be larger because going left is notably harder than going right.

You're right about the speed. I saw no speed increase over Sense. I think all the speed claims on the market and such are coming from different phones.

1. When you're adding a widget/icon/folder, drag it to the left or right edge of the screen to get the screen to scroll over. It's tough moving left... that needs to be improved, but it is doable.

2. I've always gotten back to my calls through the notification bar anyway, so I guess you're out of luck on that one. You could try posting a request on the LP forums.

3. HTC widgets don't work in LP (yet), so you're out of luck there as well.

4. I've had no FCs, but some people have. Looking at the bug forums on the LP site, the general culprit of FCs is memory. 7 screens full of widgets and 3D app drawers and landscape orientations... eventually causes crashes apparently. Something else that supposedly helps is to clear your home screens in Sense (since as I'm sure you've noticed, your Sense home screens aren't your LP home screens). Anyway, for now that's all you can do until the dev figures out how to work around the OS's memory limitations, or Google allows for more memory post Froyo.

5. Long press on one of those icons and change it to your liking.

Yep. Having 2937892933328 widgets will definitly crash your phone lol

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.

I'm not trying to rain on everyone's parade, but I've installed and uninstalled this 3x now. I just don't see the benefit. The 3d drawer is cool, but that's about it. The htc program seems to work better for me. Launcher pro takes way too much effort to try to get each page how you want it. htc sense already does that for you. Maybe I'm missing something. It's just not for me. Good input from everyone though.

Honestly, I think its just preference. I prefer Sense so far.. many others prefer Launcher Pro.

Absolutely its about preference. Same reason anyone likes anything over anything else. For me I love how customizable LP is, sense is awesome and just the fact that I can easily switch between 2, 3, or even 4 launchers to get a different look is unbelievable on a phone.

As of 0.6.0, LauncherPro has a much more versatile dock. The two extra rows and the screen indicator are exactly what I was hoping would come next. To be honest, I would've been happy with one row.

Here is the full list of changes:

  • Fixed the bug where the app drawer’s home button would show for a second after coming back from an application.
  • Fixed screen previews when choosing to have 2 homescreens
  • Fixed some folder-related bugs when 5-row option is selected.
  • New screen indicator (optional). If you’re not using the homescreen dots in your dock, you can choose do display a small indicator at the bottom of the screen to know on which homescreen you are. You can enable it in the preferences
  • New: The app drawer button is now a regular dock shortcut. That means you can change its position, change its icon, or remove it entirely.
  • New: The dock has grown! Swipe the dock to the left (down in landscape) to reveal 5 additional shortcut spaces. Now swipe it again for 5 more! That makes a total of 15 shortctus. You can add the app drawer button on the new dock spaces by long-pressing on one and choosing “App Drawer”.
  • New: Option to keep LauncherPro in memory. When you’re running low on memory, the system usually kills LauncherPro, so next time you open it, it has to reload all widgets and icons which takes a few seconds. This option should keep the system from killing LauncherPro. If you experience any troubles with it, please disable it on the settings.

A couple of questions,

1. Once I set a wallpaper, is there a way to save it? currently I have to do the cropping procedure for each photo I want set as my wallpaper.

2. How come when I switch between HTC Sense and LauncherPro the LauncherPro wallpaper changes back to the HTC Sense wallpaper is there a way to stop this?

BTW, with disable wallpaper scrolling being an option it would be nice to scroll up and down through the home screens along with the current left to right, right to left.

Wait, what's the best way to "update" LauncherPro?

Do I have to just install the latest and it will install over the previous version? Just curious.

Thanks everyone for your responses to my concerns/questions. Love this community, so damn active (maybe because everyone either loves or hates their device!).

Thanks, just updated!

Question:

What's everyone's favorite calendar/agenda widget that works with LauncherPro?

I need a good one and have a feeling that Smooth Calendar is killing my battery.

I use calwidget, two of them, to display two different calenders. Its simple, and easy

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.

seriously, if the only thing launcher pro did was replace the useless sense bar at the bottom, with the 5 icons I chose, the switch would be worth it.....I hate being on page 2 and wanting to surf the internet, but my internet shortcut is on page 7 or I have the same internet shortcut on every page wasting space....

This is basically the only reason I use launcher pro, and now that you can swipe it side to side and add 10 more icons, i just may, leaving my desktop for more widgets and less icons...

EDIT:

And the single biggest improvement for me would be if the icons supported notification counts. I.E. my phone icon showed a 3 in the corner meaning 3 missed calls or unread google voice messages, the mail icon showed the # of unread emails, same with handcent etc, etc.

To be honest I wish there was even a google voice widget that showed the # of unread vmails, like they have for gmail....but I've yet to find it and have no clue why.....

did you guys lose the ability to go landscape with the version released today?
I cant get to the properties any more, and, I cant put icons in the very bottom row on my EVO any more either?

any ideas?

I used to love this proggie...

In addition to this, I wish there was a SINGLE phone application. Mine is divided between the standard phone one to make calls, and the Google Voice one to check texts/voicemails. A single one would be much nicer, with a widget which has three "bubble" corners: top-left for voicemail count, top-right for text message count, bottom-left for missed calls count.

That application, with that widget dockable... ideal man, ideal.

I replaced the middle icon in my dock with something else, oops. How do I get the icon back that takes me to the list of all my apps?

No, I even PAID for the People/Contacts widget, but it glitches and only shows 2 people... and they're unclickable if it glitches. I gave up and just put direct dial shortcuts for now.
