Can not access from PC the SD or internal flash storage

S4A

Newbie
Initially all worked OK. But then after some installs from the Market i am not able to access any internal flash storages. Phone was not rooted.

Here are some facts:

- i see the drive letters assigned for both of them on PC but when you click Explore the message is "Please insert a disk into drive M: (or N or whatever)".
- They are shown as mounted on the phone . Dismount and mount again changes nothing
- the phone is recording photos/videos OK on internal memory means flash is working fine.
- SD card is perfectly working too. if you extract it and put into computer you can read/write it. On the cell you can play music from it etc no problems
- I restored everything with Factory Data Reset but things did not change
- Same story from another PC
- Samsung Kies shows the files in PC Windows Media Player which are on Vibrant's SD card but can not read/download them

Is this some driver problem ? Or flash memory is locked by Vibrant OS?

I suspect EasyTether or PDANet third party driver for Samsung phones is responsible.
Tethering works though

there is no US kies yet... i think that what you are using is international and not made directly for US phones... so there is your problem.. you can use mass storage and you would have to hold and press the usb connected and press mount and your phone would be recognize as a removable device. I think for now until samsung releases the kies for US phones thats all you can do...

Kies was just for info, i do not use it, it also does not work anyway.

What i need is access SD as from PC, and that stopped to work no matter what i do

Have you tried to access the SD card on a different computer? You said you did a factory reset and that would have eliminated any issue with 3rd party software causing the issue. It could be that the device drivers on windows are corrupt.

Drivers should not play an issue when mounting the drive. The computer will read it like it would when a regular flash drive is plugged. If you did factory reset and it didn't fix the problem, then I suggest you take it to a T-Mobile store and try to exchange it. My computer reads my phone fine, both internal and SD memory.

Problem is solved but i still can not understand how these changes to the phone happened. Probably some installed software changed in Vibrant something. Could be it's the "addition" from the tethering software

Anyway, here it is, it's very simple, but this is an additional step to what it was before nevertheless. After usual USB cable connection and confirmation of using the phone as a mass storage device on the phone popped up menu (if you've made this selection on the phone settings), say into Voice dialer: "Open SD Card", and when new screen appears, click "Enable USB mass storage"

S4A, thank you! I was having the same problem on my Vibrant. Two drives showed up in Vista's file explorer, but I couldn't open them. When I did your voice dial -> open sd -> check the mass storage checkbox, it worked!

Weird that this is not in the main settings, that I can see...

Yes, it is weird...And i do not remember i have checked/unchecked anything when i first time accessed the storage, i 've just choose the storage on the phone and all was working.

But seems some additional apps i installed modified this permanently since they need this to be on/off for their purposes when the cellphone communicates with the PC

Hey everyone, I found the setting:

Settings -> Applications -> USB settings -> Mass storage

So you won't have to use the voice dial now. Just navigate that path above.

OMG!!!! I was about to tear my friggin hair out until I found this thread. Nothing worked until I tried the voice dial info above. THANK YOU!
