Root Can NOT send text messages

At my wits end. :(

Okay, so I continue to get RADIO INTERFACE RESOURCE SHORTAGE error when trying to send a text now on my evo. It didnt use to do it EVERY time. But a couple a days ago I called into VM and tried to see if they could get my Voice mail notification working (little did I realize it was a rom issue.) The VM tech had me do ##CLEAR# and do a reset from the menu there. I was told it would reset all connections with VirginM.

After doing that No matter what rom I am on, Ive tried, JMZstock, MeanRom, ZR3DX I cant send a text message. To add insult to injury, I am still receiving them fine, but every time I try to send it gives me the error.

Ive tried all sorts of steps with VM Tech support. Reset on there end, like 4 times, updating profile, updating PRL, nothing has worked. Any of you guys have any suggestion?

I sincerly appreciate you reading this. If I cant get this fixed Ill just have to buy a new phone and I cant afford it. So dismayed over this. :(

Could this be a problem with the SMSC Number? If I go into *#*#4636#*#* And scroll to bottom I can see a SMSC number spot, but I dont understand why I would need to change any of that, when Its a fresh flash from JMZstock, wouldnt all of those settings be put back onto my phone.

Try doing another clear, then going into settings and updating both your profile and your prl. If you've forgotten your msl (needed for the clear) there's a msl reader for the evo on the market.

It's not the smsc though. It should be blank

Also, try re flashing again. Make sure your clearing dalvik cache, cache, system, boot, and data (just to be safe) and see what happens. (seriously, make sure you wipe dalvik cache. Some people honestly forget.)

Hm... Try reactivating?
If all else fails, email virgin Mobile, tell them your under the warranty period for your phone, that it is malfunctioning, that you've done all the troubleshooting steps, and to send you a replacement. They're usually pretty good at doing that lol

Oh, and include your address in the email... Doing and saying all these things will save you a few days of back and fourth between them ^_^

Kinda strange though that you can send them

I will look into this. Do you know if since i changed the recovery to 4ext and it is rooted. That they will see that and deny the exchange?

I can only speak for myself but I went through 6 Motorola Triumphs with Virgin and returned them all with root and CWM but stock Rom. I don't know what their policy is for the Evo V since it's a more expensive phone but I would tend to think they wont care.

You could try doing this in the dial pad: ##25327#, and then at the top right tap data, then tap reset. Your phone will reboot, and then try your texting again.

Also, I've been having the same problem since i got the phone.
Call the tech support team at

Explain whats happening, they will be able to fix it if the above doesn't work.

This is what MANY people have been experiencing, myself included. Read my thread involving this: http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-v-4g/577024-radio-interface-resource-shortage-fix.html

I'm currently working on extracting a release date for a software patch that fixes this issue. VM is aware of it. I brought it all the way to the attention of the Sprint software team themselves, who are now also aware of it. So far all I know is that they expect a patch to be released "soon" and someone else mentioned the 2nd week of August as a possibility. That would coincide with the official release of ICS for the EVO 3D, which makes sense. Also on my thread are the real ways you need to get in touch with VM. Their standard CS is useless, brainless, and full of nothing but script reading.

Also, you should download Signal Notificaion by LogicMonkey (free in the Play Store) to monitor your signal as dBm readings. When the reading drops to -120 dBm and your signal bars freeze, you'll get this error. That seems to point to a problem with the radio firmware getting stuck. Right now the only fix for this problem is to restart your phone or restart whatever data connection you have enabled. It also happens more often when you're on WiFi and also even more often if you're also in a low signal area like I am. Hope this helps. That's all I know for now.

I appreciate the time to post your response metal571. The fix you linked, I have tried as well. And still doesn't work, I was able to contact their returns department via email and they are sending me another phone, and Im sending this one back. I just don't understand how it went from doing it occasionally to doing it every time, making it impossible to SEND texts, and it coincided with contacting the VM customer service and them doing a restart of all data connections with the ## menu.
Anyway if its still doing it on the new handset Ill know for certain its a problem with there service programming and not the phone it self. Thank you guys for reading this and helping me out with this.

I was getting the Error 67 when ever I would send out a text. Since flashing my phone with the MidnightRom I have yet to experience the error message. You should try that ROM out and see if that helps you.

That is true, I was getting the radio error as well, all the time. But after flashing MidnightRom it went away. I would definitely try that.

im getting error 64 still on midnight. 67 is different tho, but the problem i see most prevalent on the phone is error 64.

post hoc ergo propter hoc

Correlation is not causation.

A recent anecdote:
My cable ISP Internet goes down. Of course, they want to send someone out. I don't like that idea because 1) I don't want someone else's grubby hands breaking stuff that isn't broken and 2) I think its an issue with their network.

I offer to swap the current IP gateway (theirs) with a known good cable modem (mine). I dig it out of the closet and connect it; it works! Nuts. It looks like I'll have to deal with Mr. Grubby Hands after all, right?

Nope. I waited a while and reinstalled the original IP gateway. It works! They resolved their network issue (that they swear they didn't have) between the time I removed one modem and installed the other. post hoc ergo propter hoc

For my Evo's radio interface error, I turned off WiFi and it started working again. Does that mean WiFi is related? Not necessarily. For intermittent problems, we need many data points to isolate the cause.

I had the problem on ZR3DX; since then I updated PRL (it was 61008) and did the clearing mentioned here.

Wife got the problem with JMZ odex: updating PRL and rebooting did not resolve it; the problem cleared after performing the aforementioned clearing procedure and rebooting. Does that mean that is the fix? We won't know until enough time has passed without incident. In the meantime, it is best to document as much observed behaviour as possible to derive meaning from it later.

Given that this isn't a new phone (only new to VM), I'm inclined to suspect carrier's incorrectly configuring the account/device/network--"operator error"--since that seems to be the only change.

For me the problem always comes back, leading me to believe that this is a software problem. VM told me yesterday that they would be forwarding their engineering team to contact me next. The answers I get will go on my thread which you linked to.
