Help Can S2 be connected to camcorder with USB connector?

Hello. I've got a JVC GZ-HM845 camcorder which records to a built-in hard drive. There's a USB connector on it to transfer videos to a computer.

On ebay I've seen a 'USB Micro b male to Mini b male data cable lead adaptor' which (I think) would link my camcorder to my Galaxy S2. But would the phone recognise the camcorder? Would I be able to transfer video to the phone? Perhaps most importantly, if the answer is "maybe", could I cause any damage to the phone by connecting them together to see if it's possible?

I would really like to be able to get video on to my phone so that I can then FTP it to a website when I'm away from my computer.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Several things:

  • You'll need a USB OTG cable to have the SGS2 act as a USB host.
  • If your camcorder's USB interface emulates a memory stick or hard drive, the SGS2 should be able to handle it. If not, the SGS2 may or may not recognize the device -- USB OTG mode is somewhat restricted as to what devices it recognizes & supports.
  • Power might be an issue -- the SGS2's USB doesn't supply much current.

The odds of doing damage to either device are pretty minimal; it's USB, after all. Just be careful with the connectors.

Thank you 3way. I've ordered a USB OTG cable. I'll post the result on here in case it's of use to anyone else in the same position.
