Root Can someone clear up some issues

Hi, I recently rooted my Desire GSM with unrev, now running CM 7.0.3 with hboot 0.93, created goldcard of my SD(Goldcardtool 0.0.5), and just added Gapps to get market. Ive read most of SURoot`s guides and starting to get "some" hang of it. There are some things that are somewhat unclear.
1. When I start hboot in bootloader it quickly displays something about the P99 file, IS THIS really to ignore?
2. Zipped gapps from cynanogen`s site(gapps-gb-20110613-signed)in clm 2.5.0.7, I got Car home, google search, news and weather and google talk but NO market. When I try to log in to google search it stops at contacting servers; CANT ESTABLISH A RELIABLE CONNECTION TO THE SERVER, this is through Wifi. What have I not done/done wrong here?
3. It`s my understanding that you dont need S-Off to use custom OS, but changes have to be done in Recovery while with S-Off you can do it when OS is running? (or could you use Termal Emulator with OS running?)
4. In Quickinfosystems I see Internal storage:148,103free, system: 250,125 free, sys cache:40,38.86free, memory: 406,247free,193idle; are theese "OK"?
Any bright thoughts would be nice....;)
noob in learning!

Some updates can be installed by putting a file called PB99IMG.zip on your SD card. If you had one, it would ask whether you wanted to install it. Otherwise it just flashes up briefly that it hasn't found one.

Bottom line: yes, you can ignore it.

Ah, I did this once, long ago, so struggling to remember.
Does the CM file manager let you view /system/app (not on the SD card, but on the phone itself)? If so, is the file "Vending.apk" present? If it is, try clicking on it to install. If not, then try flashing the gapps zip again.

If you have Root Explorer or ES File Explorer then they certainly do let you look at /system/app. But if you haven't got these already, you can't install them without the market...

There are some changes that you can do with android running that you would otherwise have to do using adb, or by editing a ROM before flashing, or via recovery. The big motivation for S-Off is being able to change your memory partitions. Read the root memory FAQ and find out what it's about before rushing in - I was running custom ROMs for several months before I considered doing this.

The partition sizes are perfectly normal - those are what a Desire comes with. Half of system is empty because CM7 is a lot smaller than the stock ROM. Doesn't look like you have a storage problem so far.

Thats good, it DID raise some testicles....

I do have root access with File Manager, the SU command with Emulator, found Vendig.apk and installed it but still same error when contacting google servers.

So untill the memory is out there`s no need to S-Off?
Ill read the FAQ SUroot made about ap2sd+ and consider it later.

Good, I was afraid I messed it up!
Thanks alot dude for the help:p

Re. the connection to google services, one stupid question: did you set up your google account after installing the ROM? You will be prompted on first boot with most ROMs, but with the google apps being an add-on with CM it might be easier to miss this.

Stupid?? One thing I`ve learned with computing is that ORDER can be important. To your question, YES; after the install. Do you need to pre-configure the account then? If so in adb shell or a script?
Anyway, wouldn`t a connection failure indicate something of a network problem?

After flashing gapps, you can log in anywhere. Gmail app, market. No adb / script necessary.

The connection to services could be network connectivity related as well as credential related. You only get connection to google services if you are logged into them, otherwise access denied.

So it`s gotta be a network related problem then? I can access Internet with the browser and receive gmail, one thing though: when I turn on and use WiFi a icon appears at the top second left; with a 3 and up-down arrow. This symbol has never been there with stock ROM.
Could this be a setting on the phone issue then? Or?

No pre-configuration, just a sign-in, which you've done. I just wondered whether this had been missed (I missed it first time I installed CM).

A general connection failure would indeed indicate a network problem, but since this was connection to google's servers I wondered whether this could be a google account issue. I did try searching the web for this, but couldn't find any very consistent answers (some talk of just trying several times until it worked, some talking about formatting system and reinstalling, nothing that sounded like an identified cause).

Looking at the wifi info I`m accessing theese IP
209.85.149.120: TIME_WAIT
67.212.77.12: CLOSE_WAIT
74.125.43.101: ESTABLISHED (Market)

Could this in any way be a indentity issue? It seems to me that the google servers will not accept my requests, rather then not being able to contact to them.
