Can someone help a Mac owner with rooting please

Im two weeks from receiving my Galaxy S2 and would love to Root it. I'm completely new to the process and also a mac owner. I have installed heimdall 1.3 just to get familiar with the layout of the software.
My problem is that I just need explaining what kernel to use and what other files are necessary and how to incorporate them in the heimdall program.
I have been reading through various guides but am getting confused as they are mostly geared towards Odin/windows.
Apologies for the noob request.

I'm not a Mac user so I 'm not familiar with the program, but you want the CF-Root* kernel package that matches your current firmware build e.g. KG2. Inside the ZIP package is a TAR archive; that is what you flash to the handset. No other files are required to obtain root.

* other root methods may be available but I've had 100% success with this one :)

I'm using a mac and have a SGSII and have so far found it impossible to root, tried using Heimdall and the CF Root as recommeneded here and by other people and it simply won't work. Whenever i load the CF root it says i am missing the firmware.xml, i have no idea what this is.

Looking at the heimdall read me it says to use a heimdall firmware packages which have ben unpacked and ref lashed for use with heimdall but they are all for the galaxy s, not the sII so I'm not sure if i would be able to use these.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Sadly i have already tried this and have had no joy with it, odin really is only good on a pc, thanks for trying to help though!
