Can someone help me figure out screen color?

Ok so I have two triumphs in my hand right now and the difference between both screens is ridiculous.. Phone A) Screen looks very dark when turned off.. Turn on the phone and it has a slight blue tint..... Phone B) Screen looks normal when turned off. not nearly as dark as phone A.. Turn it on and the screen looks way brighter, almost like the colors are all more bright and sorta washed out? Hard to tell though because I have had Phone A for two weeks now so maybe am just use to the darkness of it...

What should the Triumphs screen really look like???... They are both so different I can't figure out what ones suppose to be the right one lol. Phone A has some other issues as well but the light bleeding on phone B is soo bad its whats holding me back from switching to it..

Here are some pictures : Phone A on the left and Phone B on the Right

Many people have reported that the triumph has a blue tint to it so that might be the norm for the phone. I however, do not notice it...

Seems like the phone on the left still has the screen protector on, and the one on the right does not. Maybe that is the reason? LOL. Oh by the way, VM/Motorola has already have their own 2nd layer screen protector on it (I put a Zagg Shield over it) who knew....

Actually that screen protector was put on by the makers of the Gorilla Glass and not Motorola or VM. No idea why though...

Anyway I would go with the phone with the darker screen and blue tint.. I had a Triumph with a very washed out screen and the colors were horrible and not deep at all.. Everything looked washed out and I could not stand it anymore so I returned it.. I got a new Triumph with the "blue tint" and the colors were a lot deeper and looked way more natural..

Tblover55 do you care to post a comparison shot of both phones with the keyboard open? The washed out look on my old Triumph was very noticeable when the keyboard was open and the skin tones/hair looked unnatural in pictures of people.. Just want to see if one of your phones has the same issue my old Triumph had..

So I've been following this thread over at Howard Forums that points out that some people have a newer version of software installed on their phones, 1010_2_038 and 1010_2_039. Mine has 1010_2_038 and I have a blue tint. I wonder if the blue tint is something that is fixed by this 1010_2_039 software.

i have 39 and have no blue tint.that also explains something i was curious about.under the battery some phones say rev 1 and some say hw a.

Mine has 1010 2 039 and does not have the blue tint. That might would explain why some of the earlier owners had screen problems and the later ones don't.

I returned the phone with the brighter screen yesterday :(. They key board on it looked very light grey the colors of the background and letters were very close.

As much as I was tempted to keep the brighter phone something about it just didn't look right.. I compared it to a third phone and the third phone looked more like the one I have now.. Even though the brighter phone didn't seem to have as much of a blue tint the colors on it were still just not right. I took some pictures of my dog with the camera and her fur just looked weird. So I'm assuming that the brighter phone was the actual defect one.. I also asked VM about it and they said it is standard for Triumphs to have a blue tint..

I'm happy with the phone I have for now.. The blue tint and is the biggest concern, that and the screen flickering but after comparing it to some other phones it just wasn't worth switching. The battery life is amazing, the signal and GPS seem to work alright and that's the most important stuff. The blue tint I can live with, it's only noticeable at certain times. Also the "Yellow Camera Dot" Is becoming a pain but seems to be the norm with these phones..

I bought a Protection Plan from BB so I think I'm going to wait a few months and see if they release some better quality Triumphs that don't have all these bugs... if not then it's no big deal.. Sucks to have all these problems floating around but overall I can't complain too much for a $250 prepaid smart phone..

Back in the day I had two different Gameboy Advance SP's, an original one and the NES painted one.

The original had a regular white screen and the NES one had the blue tint people are talking about with the Triumph. I'm not sure what caused it, but I imagine it's something similar.

Not sure why I'm posting this, it just reminded me of my old handhelds. :D

That's exactly what my old Triumph was like too.. Very light grey keyboard and the keyboard background was very close to the color of the keys.. Peoples hair would have this grey look to it instead of jet black like their hair was supposed to be.. The colors on the blue tinted Triumph I have now are way better and blacks actually look black..

The inconsistencies with phone issues/non issues are Crazy. Definitely a thumbs up on getting the BB plan. Seems like we all should have it just incase haha

I purchased mine with an AMEX card. As such, I have an additional year warranty. I don't know if other cards provide extended protection, but I've always purchased electronics using the card for this reason and opted out of "service plan" offers.
YMMV

I registered an account just so I could share my experience. My first triumph was one with a bright screen and it had all kinds of problems. Really bad light leakage, unresponsive screen and back button, black and white flicker, sudden restarts and the gps and bluetooth did not function. I returned it and recieved one with a blue tint and it is functioning properly in all areas. So it does seem like the one with the bright screen is the defective batch of phones. So this is a good way to tell if you have gotten a good one or a lemon.

My new one has the software version ending in 39 and has the blue tint. The blue tint is only noticeable when the screen brightness is all the way down or on auto. If I adjust the brightness up you can barely see the tint.

No need for bb plan. Vm will exchange just about anything. My new phone has a much better screen than the first one. They both had 39 sw. I could tell on the lockscreen, on my old one the tabs werent as clear as on my new one, and it had the blue tinit. Mine now is very vivid!

You see a difference because there are two different types of screens for the Triumph: Toshiba's and Truly.

Toshiba is the whiter, more washed out on. Trulys are the darker, richer ones.

If you have Launcher pro, you can find out your screen version by doing the following:

Tap and hold somewhere on the screen to get the "Add to Home Screen" menu

Tap Shortcuts

Tap Activites

Scroll down to "FCQ Program", tap to expand the menu, and then tap "FCQ Program"

Run that, and select "SW & HW Version Test", and you will get all sorts of info about your device, including your panel type. You can also run other tests from that app if you want.

Both from personal experience with multiple devices and reading reports from various forums, which panel type you have is not an accurate indicator if whether or not your device will have issues or not. I have a Toshiba software version 38 with no issues, my friend has a Truly software verison 39 with problems, and others out there have the exact opposite.
