I understand what its saying but am I putting the files on my desktop or my sd card? and step 7..is that on the phone or on my computer?

The .img file goes on your SD card . (Chances are you already have it from your previous rooting attempts.)

The "flash_image" executable file goes into the /system/bin folder in your phone's ROM - *not* the SD.
