Root Can someone help with apk manager?

I took the apk for a theme I have installed, threw it in apk manager, extracted it, pasted over some of the system png files--and after that I am not sure what I need to do. When I'm done the output file apk has "unsigned" in the name. Then it will fail to install on the phone. I don't think I'm signing properly, or leaving unsigned(not sure which I do).
