Eh, the bashing back and forth to me just highlights that there's competition between the two companies... makes me happy and hopeful, because the more we (collectively, not all of us) bitch, the more progress that'll be made technologically.
I have my stance from using friends iPhones and my Moment, then Hero, now Evo.
The iPhone is much less daunting when you pick it up. It's a simple one-button away from everything interface, there are no extra option menus, everything is color coded and directed at even the youngest users (I've seen 9-13 year olds waltzing around our neighbor hood with the 3G's and some 3GS's if their parents don't care *most don't here*).
Android phones, in general, aren't the most user-friendly to those who don't enjoy poking and prodding their way into stuff to figure out how it works. Everything lies under the surface, for the most part, but is usually a menu or two away. For most people, this takes getting used to, unlike the iPhone. They compare the two, see that everything is right at their face all on 2 or 3 pages on the iPhone and come to the conclusion that it's simpler.
That's my perspective on your average not-exactly tech savvy user/consumer. I mean heck, look at some of the reviews by below average tech users (one bears in mind). Some say that the lock screen is confusing, it's just a bad in the screen with no instructions. The iPhone just has everything labeled and layed out with, again, one button use.
Personally, I find that one button motto of Apple on their phone works well, but I'm not fond of it. I actually ENJOY prodding around and doing things with and to my phone. That's part of the reason I love Android hella better than the iPhone. It's a LOT more open for modifying and doing what you want, when you want, on it. The iPhone does what it does well; performing basic to moderate tasks with extreme ease of use. Android does what it does well, moderate to advanced tasks with little, moderate, or extreme difficultly of use.
That's my stance on it, correct me and quote me on anything you feel I got wrong there.
Just gonna throw this out here so I get 50% flame protection, I'm still for Android over the iPhone series.
