Help Can the speaker sound be improved?

My cheap and venerable speakerphones have always been plenty loud, therefore the Droid speaker sound is a bit of a letdown. Can it be improved in any way? Maybe hardware, or maybe somebody developed a better driver for the stock speaker?

How about both?

If I had to pick, the sound quality isn't the worst, but the volume could be quite a bit louder when the phone is in your pocket, you're on a noisy street, and at full volume your mp3 of average quality goes un-noticed. And I am comparing apples to apples (for the ringtone quality), and this phone to tiny old cheapies, like the Sony Walkman slider phone (it was also a plenty-loud speakerphone in my car).
