Can we get a complaints section here?

Ok.. look.. I am not trying to say that complaints about the captivate are unjustified..

People have a right to expect certain things out of their phone... working gps, timely updates and all that jazz.

I got the captivate a few days ago and love my phone. I realize it doesn't work for everyone out there.. But, I think it is an amazing phone that feels good in my hand, is very responsive, and the problems it has either don't affect me or haven't bothered me enough to worry about it.

I completely respect that some people are so fed up with the captivate they are going to another phone, and that is cool with me.

But, it would also be nice to not have every day or every other day a new 'I AM GOING TO ____ PHONE'

or 'LOL CRAPTIVATE!'

Again, I am not trying to discount other people's problems just because I don't have them or they do not affect me.

However, I think there are enough complaints on this phone to warrant its own subforum almost.

I would just like for every other post to not be something overwhelmingly negative.

People have a right to be negative all day long and that is fine with me..

But, I feel I can't be the only person on these forums who is content with their phone and not hell bent on jumping ship to the atrix or iphone 4 or back to the razr since it apparently has a better GPS.

Trust me I stood in line on the first day of release for this phone and up until these last two weeks I've been completely faithful to it. I've stood up for this phone while talking with everyone from hardcore iPhone users to casual 'Go' phoners. Today was my first time ever calling out this phone as the "Craptivate" because of such ridiculous events that befell on me.

Just give this phone some time and you'll start getting used to the snappiness and sharpness of everything...but WHEN you start using this phone more often you will notice that things slow down and that snappiness becomes non-existent. You'll be on the verge of snapping the phone in pieces because at the most critical time, the phone will let you down...and deep down all of the problems are caused by Samsung's customization. When this phone is flashed and running stock Android, it works perfectly so I've heard.

I understand how you don't want to see these threads every day, but many times these threads are helpful, and in a way comforting, to others who are experiencing similar problems.

Well, I don't think anyone would even post here unless they were complaining. I mean, yeah, there is some necessity for like, discussing themes and wallpapers and such, but that's pretty general and Android-based. If people are posting Captivate-specific stuff, it's mostly (completely) going to be problems complaints, with the occasional weekly thread about what you love about your Captivate. In the end, this entire thread is almost purely problem-based yet I do appreciate that there was a subsection created for tips/tricks and accessories and such. Just my 2

@Darkeligos I was not targeting you specifically, if you in anyway feel I was I apologize.

I am really not worried about this phone "giving out on me". I've dealt with all kinds of tech and had all sorts of problems over a long period of time. If the situation deteriorates I will address it accordingly.

@yahoowizard err..

I never differentiated..

But, I feel like there is a pretty solid difference between posting problems and trying to get help

And out right complaining.

If your trying to resolve an issue that is cool.

But, a lot of people posting are complaining and don't care to hear anything other than people agreeing and nodding their heads that samsung is the devil itself.

Again I'm not trying to say that these people are wrong for doing so..

But, just that it might be nice to help people who want help... and to let everyone else who just wants to be made at the phone have their own little section to rant and rave over it.

If people want to go into the rant and rave section thats their business.

It would at least give those happy with the phone who want to help a chance to not see 'I AM GOING TO _____'

And well call me crazy but, I think constant negativity is just long term counter productive.

I've been asking for an "OFFICIAL: Piss and Moan Thread" for some time.

Its the same people, pissing and moaning about the same thing every time. Every single thread crying about GPS, Lag, AT&T, Samsung, Froyo, etc... should go in that thread. Its nothing but retreads and reruns. It doesn't add to the board and quite honestly, is driving me to possibly leaving.

I came to this forum to learn more about the phone, its potential and how to implement it. Not hear a bunch of whiners, voicing the SAME complaints every day.

Each device's Support and Troubleshooting sub-forum is for complaints (of a constructive, advice seeking nature, of course ;)).

Expressing in a thread general dislike for a device, based on how many others we see with similar complaints (GPS, battery life, etc) seems ok to a point, that stuff comes and goes here there and everywhere and is one of the purposes of this general device area.

But to make a special device sub-forum just for that seems a bit strange.

Here is an idea, since 90% of the posts here are negitive. Make a I LOVE MY CAPPY, tab so we can get help without sifting though the Sackcloth and Ashes threads and tirades. I have to admit, I came to this forum for tips and help, but it has become increasingly tedious wading though "this phone __________ is better than Capitivate and I'm getting rid of it the Captivate". Post like that are 1. not helpful and 2. Smack of paid bloggers making their living on getting people to leave one manufacturer for the one they are being paid to prop up which in itself diminishes the usefullness of this Forum.

Well, I don't know about that high of a percentage of negative posts. ;) But forums do inherently attract those with issues looking to be remedied. Over half for sure, probably 75% or so.

So we see mostly "complaints" all over the internet.. (check out the Blackberry forums :D).

Some device users do get fed up and need to talk about that and sort of vent in general. As mentioned earlier, these generic, non-sub-forum device areas are just right for that.

There is also the Android Lounge. Android Lounge - Android Forums

If one looks at the various popular phone forums here, it's clear that each forum takes on the nature of the phone and the carrier.

When all is well, those forums don't die or turn into lollipop festivals, the users excitedly share all sorts of things.

When all is not well, those forums don't die with everyones' tails between their legs, the users excitedly share all sorts of things.

In fact - they become generally correct for users of each phone looking to optimize or to solve problems or to find camaraderie.

Saying in essence with more words what Frisco, as experienced staff, said with fewer - and what Darkeligos, as an experienced user, said with specific helpful focus in immediate answer.

You've no doubt noticed some of the hotter threads, where I've asked what mods always do - take your issues up with staff directly via PM in order to be really heard - or that you have now four members of staff trying to decide on the correct triage here.

If the forum has a certain chaos, it's because that's what's been forced on unsuspecting users by a deaf carrier + manufacturer combo.

If you extend your idea, you're asking that we constrain to these classes for the major complaints:

  • my GPS/Eclair works fine, you're all whiners
  • GPS/Eclair doesn't work fine, you're all whiners
  • I don't care if GPS/Eclair works fine, you're all whiners
  • have you seen this GPS-fix or Froyo-blurb from Samsung / other source, along with, is there a fix for this
    • it works great
    • no it doesn't
  • you can get working GPS/Froyo if you root and use this custom rom
    • that custom rom doesn't work
    • yes it does
    • you're nuts to root
    • no I'm not
  • let's get our money back
    • we can sue someone
    • no, the phone is great, let's stick it out
  • what's the latest news, why isn't there later news
  • Why doesn't AndroidForums manage this problem, haven't they noticed the issue with too many or too few threads?

With that, I have to declare this thread on complaining over the complaining as...

/closed.
