When I plug my captivate into my PC to charge, its says MTP Application at the top, shows a usb cord image and says "connected". it is charging but i cannot get to the homescreen or any other functions. can anyone help? thanks
Go to Settings > Applications > USB Settings and set it to Ask on Connection. Don't select Samsung Kies when it prompts you as it will go into locked state like you mentioned. I haven't tried the other selections, but you can still manipulate the phone in Mass Storage mode at least.
