Can you use the GPS without an internet connection?

Went to the android market and noticed there are some running apps that track your distance and route. Have also heard of Google Maps Navigation. If you are in an area with no (or weak) service, is the GPS mode on the Optimus V still usable?

Not Google maps but copilot saves it to the phone so there is no need for internet

GPS works as long as the maps are cached on your phone, or stored there permanently.

GPS "works" even without any maps at all... it's just not as helpful, obviously, unless you have some context behind the little marker.

Anyone know if the GPS can be used on a boat out in the middle of the ocean, without out any maps loaded,

just to display the LAT/LONG readings?

Yes, definitely.

There are many. I have one on my phone called simply "GPS Test."
