Canada - Buying and using on different carriers

Tip for those users that bought their phone from Bell in Canada and are using it on another network -- Bell will not support your phone if you don't have an active Bell account. I took mine in for service to Bell and they said I had to deal with Samsung directly by myself.

Three things I learned from this:
  1. Bell are dicks
  2. Samsung Canada is pretty speedy (1 week door to door for repair)
  3. With Bell out of the loop, I'm now able to flash my phone to the yakju build and get updates from Google directly

Non-yakju builds come directly from Google's servers anyway. Yakju builds will just get you slightly faster releases and otherwise are nearly the same. Since you've switched, you might want to flash the yakjuux radio so you have the one intended for use in Canada. yakju will still work, but presumable it may not be as good here at some times. But I think when you change system files the yakju OTA updates won't install anymore, so by installing the correct radio you may break future OTA updates. Just a note of caution.

The radio point is a good one. I'll see how my phone works for the next week or two and decide if I need to change anything. No issues noted so far.

Slightly faster is an understatement.. I had 4.0.2 on my phone for almost 2 months before it was released for the yakjuux variants. Also, I heard people were having some really weird problems after their 4.0.2 yakjuux upgrade and I heard nothing of the sorts from my fellow yakjuers.

Yeah. Unfortunately they broke Canada. :(
