Help Cancel default SMS notifications?

I have handcent SMS and would like those notifications to overrule the stock SMS but even if I un check notifications from the stock SMS manager it still pops up with my handcent popup over top of it.

Anyone know the remedy? I've checked all over Google to no luck. I just think im missing something.

That's a weird issue. I use Handcent and have no issues with the stock messaging app.

I hate to be one of those responders that says "mine works" and moves on so I'll ask this: You went to App Drawer->Text Messaging->Messaging Settings->Notifications and unchecked it?

That is really all it should take.
