Cancelled Sprint acct during trial before. Now Amazon says they can't accept my order!!

Two months ago, I ordered Epic from Amazon, but had to return it due to bad hardware and some software issues. I returned the device before 30 days were up and cancelled the Sprint contract and money was refunded and all went smooth. Now Epic is going for $99 on Amazon right now and I really wanted to get this deal, but Amazon says they cant process my order because my information is already present in the Sprint's system, so even though I am a new customer, they cant take my order. They say they can only take orders for Sprint from people who have never had been a Sprint customer before EVER!! So even though I am ordering a new line, I am not a new customer for Sprint, and therefore I am not eligible to order. The amazon rep said the only way I can order a Sprint phone from Amazon is after (and if) Sprint removed all my info from their system. I wanted to ask if others have experience such thing from Amazon and were you ever able to work around it?? Yes I know I can buy from someplace else, but I really wanted to get this deal of $99 for epic!

I would call Sprint C/S see what they say. I would also ask them if they can match the Amazon deal. You never know.
 
You're not a new customer until 90 days after terminating an account. All the carriers do this to prevent folks from using a phone for 29 days, returning it during the grace period, and then doing it all over again.
 
I called sprint and they never mentioned any 90 day restriction for reapplying. Sprint rep really wanted to help me even offered to reopen my closed account so that I can choose the add-a-line feature and add a new line to my previous account, but amazon does not support this.
 
When I got my phone and they where explaining to me the terms. It very clearly stated that if I canceled my line, I would not beable to open a new one for 90 days.
 
I was just in a Sprint store this weekend for service. While waiting, I heard them telling people about the 30-day return and 90-day wait at least half a dozen times. I didn't get the spiel from Sprint when I ported over in June, but AT&T was quick to threaten-slash-remind me that I could not come back as a new customer for at least 90 days (Of course, I laughed and told them I'd already had my Sprint phone for over a week and was just porting over on my last day of service without any plans to come back.).

FWIW, buying online works best with simple transactions. A lot of phone reps would misquote or mishandle this situation because they want to sell you a new phone and service only to find out they really can't.

I hope I am not in the same boat as you, but I have been with At&t for 8 years or so, last month I got an X10 from Amazon and after 29 days, returned it. It should get to their Kentucky office tomorrow via UPS. So far, Amazon has been great about the return, I hope that continues.

I called At&t before I returned it and they didn't mention anything about waiting, but I have to get Amazon to sent word to At&t that the device has been returned before my contract is reset and I can go buy another device.

I am planning on getting a Dell Streak from Best Buy, but if I have to wait 90 days, I might just be waiting until May for a Dell Streak2 :D

My Blackberry Curve is feeling so old after having the X10 for a month :(
 
I hope I am not in the same boat as you, but I have been with At&t for 8 years or so, last month I got an X10 from Amazon and after 29 days, returned it. It should get to their Kentucky office tomorrow via UPS. So far, Amazon has been great about the return, I hope that continues.

You should be fine as long as you're returning the phone but keeping the line. If you're canceling service completely than yes, you're in the same boat as the OP. And you lose your number as well.
 
Good to hear Sprint has the 90 day policy. It prevents abuses and the devaluation of returned phones over and over again.

I wonder if the 90 day policy should be extended to 120 or 180 days. If someone decides they don't like Sprint after using it for almost a month, why let them open an account again so soon?

I do agree.. I dont want people over using this benefit. hurts us all.
 
Sprint does want return customers, just not serial abusers. I sure they found the right time period to both discourage the abusers and win back former customers who had to try the greener grass of another pasture
 
Arghh, I'm an idiot. I had no idea about this policy (makes sense though).

I opened a new account and chose the Blackberry Curve 3G, didn't like it and exchanged it for the Optimus S,

What a difference! So, I was planning on exchanging this one (Optimus) and going for the HTC EVO. I didn't know that you can only do one exchange withon the 30 day period (the rep never mentioned, I read it online @ the Sprint site).

I was thinking of canceling my account and then reopening and getting the EVO. Apparently this isn't possible?

I think the Sprint system of using Authorized Retailers is flawed. I had a problem with a Authorized retailer and being forced to go back to the same retailer instead of to another store is a bad system.

I was actually threatened by the retailer with that 90 day clause and I quit anyway.

I was told that if I want to use Sprint the only way I can is to go through them. I told them I then don't have to use Sprint.

I would rather go somewhere else than be given a hard time by a Cell Phone provider. If that includes going to another provider then so be it.

Anyway, calling people names is not permitted on the forum, so you're pretty borderline with your comment there. Also, this is not a bad policy. This is a GOOD policy to prevent abusers of the system. A phone can only be NEW once, and returns make the phones less valuable, and it can't ever be sold as NEW ever again. (duh!). So when people return things, carriers, and the third party lose money on the return because they now have a much less valuable phone that they simply can't sell new, and can't offer it with a new contract unless the customer has been told it's used. This is a VERY GOOD policy, and it's completely fair.

once you purchased a sprint phone and activate it.. you can always go to sprint for any help! they will support the phone and your service.

you should have report that retailer issue to sprint.

Either you or I are missing something dan. I think what happened is he went to go return the phone to Sprint for an exchange or to cancel and Sprint told him he had to return it to the 3rd party dealer....
