Help Cannot access Android Market

When I try to access the market a registration page appears very briefly with "Accept" & "Decline" buttons but before I can press these I'm rerouted to a Google Play policies page with URL Google Play Terms of Service

How do I get to the market? I have reset the device to factory defaults, and tried unsetting/resetting "Background data" sync as recommended in other posts.

I have GT-19100P, running Orange Android 2.3.4.

Any ideas welcome.

Thanks for the prompt reply....but I know that Play has replaced the market. Also I don't have a missing Market app, just that my App briefly displays the Accept screen and then goes to the policy page. The two links you included don't provide a solution.

I am having exactly the same problem.

I go into 'Market' on the main phone menu, for about 0.5 seconds you see the 'accept' and 'decline' option appear, but before you get a chance to click 'accept' the googleplay user conditions pops up, but you can't go back to the other screen. Everytime I go in to 'Market' this happens.

The only option is to then click on the googleplay icon, which takes you to the main website site. However, it won't let you download any apps because you haven't registered an andriod phone.

The reason I can't register the andriod phone is because the site won't bloody let me. It's very frustrating.

SG84, could you help me through this with my Galaxy s2. When I select the Market App the "accept" screen appears but not long enough to do anything, before the googleplay web page appears. Where do I find the clear cache and clear data you refered to?

Welcome to the forum Mickyc797 and thanks for joining.

If you go to settings, applications, manage applications and then press the all tab at the top, then scroll down to the google play app you can clear them from there.

I went to the new play on my computer and it asked me to put in my Google password again. After that I was able to get to Play on my phone just fine.

Yep. Clear Cache rather than Clear Data did the trick for me. But.....I did a factory reset so I would expect empty data and cache so why did the Market app not work immediately after the factory reset?

But it's working now, 2-3 days after the factory reset. Odd.

GS84, I got to the "manage applications" selected all and Google Play app is not there?

Have you turned your phone off since the market got updated? I had to reboot before my new icons showed up so it may be worth doing that and then seeing if its been added to the list of applications.

Honestly I would have thought that cache would have been wiped by the factory reset. Don't really know why it wasn't.

Hi again, having tried a number of things suggested here, I am now in the position where when I use the "Market" app I get an error message stating "Attention: An error has occured. Please try again later". Would a factory reset as suggested by Bunker help? This wouldn't be a great inconvenience as its a new phone. Is there a better, or alternative method of downloading apps to my S2? Any help greatly appreciated, as at the moment I cannot find a method to download apps.

Sorry for the delay Micky. Try downloading this apk (thanks to hawker for finding it). Just instal it using my files. If it doesn't sort the problem you will probably have to try a factory reset. Make sure your contacts are backed up to google if you do factory reset as these will get deleted.

Shotgun, thanks for coming back for me. Story so far after lots of perserverence today:

Found different thread on how to do a factory reset http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s2-international/512444-restoring-factory-without-usb-connectivity.html - thanks Russell.

When phone booted up again I was back to original problem of when sellect "Market" app it took me to the Google Play Store T&C web page. I then realised that this linked directly to the Google PlayStore internet web page (by tapping the Google Play Store banner). This listed all the available apps as you would see them on the internet. Tried to download of a free app from there and got the message along the lines of "Your Google account does not have any android devices registered".

Went on to my Google account and found out that to add an android device you need to set up the 2 step verification process which generated a 12 character (Applications Specific) password for me. This is different form the normal password associated with my google account.

Did factory reset again, and this time during set up, when I got to the Google account set up screen, I used the Application Specific 12 character password (not my Google Account Password).

With the phone set up I hit the "Market" apps button. It went to the T&C screen of the Google Play Store again! and while I was thinking "Oh No, You Bas....." the screen flickered then changed to the "Google Play Store" apps screen. Yee Ha.:)

I downloaded a couple of free apps no problem.

As this was the last techy thing I needed to get working, I'm now a very happy chappy and loving my new S2 although this bit was hard work.

Kies Air works great and it was a bonus to see I could import from itunes!

Sorry for the long post but this may help others.

Shotgun, thanks for the welcome to the forums and I may be here more to help after what i've just learned.

No problem mate, I'm chuffed for you that its sorted.
I've been in those situations many a time and it always does put a smile on your face when its sorted and you can appreciate the phone for the awesome bit of kit it its.
