Help Cannot call or send messages!

Hi, I just got my HTC Desire C yesterday and I put in my o2 sim. I can use the internet, android market etc but I cannot send messages or call other people. The 5 bars on my phone has an X next to it and I put another sim inside the phone to see if the sim was the problem but the same thing occurred. Does anybody know what happened and how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

Are you connected to wifi when you are browsing the web etc?

As on most new phones now days you can use them with Wifi only. I know I can with my blackberry for sure.

Even if I put a sim in that is on a different network I can browse internet through wifi, but like you i get the no signal icon.

Did the sim come with the phone??
