Help Cannot change phone language

Svein1967

Newbie
Hello,

I'm new to this forum and new to the p500 (well, actually I don't have the phone myself but both my daughter and son got one for Christmas).

First of all, we live in Norway and we have trouble making Norwegian the default language on one of the phones.

On initial startup, we were asked in German to enter PIN, then we chose Norwegian from the list of languages. So far so good. After being off overnight, when we turn on the phone we're asked in German to enter PIN, after that the phone language is Swedish (!). We enter "Settings", "Locale and text", "Choose language" and then Norwegian. After that everything is fine until the phone is turned off and on again, when it reverts back to German and Swedish.

On the other phone where we have no problems it says "Norwegian" under "Choose language", on the problem phone it says nothing here regardless of language chosen, so it looks like the chosen language is not "remembered".

Setting the language each time the phone is switched on is a bit boring so I really hope someone on this forum knows a solution to this.

Welcome to the forums and greetings to Norway!
this sounds strange, I haven't found a word about such problem on forum or Google. Do you have same firmware in all 3 phones? Maybe this buggy phone has different firmware version (just trying)? :
- check "Innstillinger / Om telefonen" - "Byggnummer" ("Settings / About phone", "Build number")
- Have you tried to connect the phones to LG PC suite and check for updates (maybe this can also fix some problems) - last build for Optimus One should be FRG83 (called "Optimus One v10c", credits to Neo, found on gsmarena.com). Don't forget to backup settings and contacts before update ! :

Hi Optimus users,
I had tried teh firmware update(INDIA) and it went fine on my Android, its now Andriod 2.2.1 kernel 2.6.32.9 Build FRG83 Version v10c
Process i followed:
1) connect to LG pc suite
2)phone update
3)PC Suite will detect update and prompt for update
4) LG suite willdownload UPDATE Software
5) IMP!!!!Do not disconnect cable or power off \Drain battery out during this,Else you will lose current OS as well as fail to udpate new one.
6)Check for compatible drivers for USB ,it will prompt to download if missing
7)Click START UPDATING
8)The OS download takes place for 126~ MB it took 10~14 Min for download and update started
9)Do not panic as phone will go to emergency mode\restart as required,so DONOT REMOVE CABLE\POWER OFF
10)Once successful, its asks for exit, remove USB CABLE and POWER ON the OS,intially it will take 3~4 to intialize do not panic and again restart, patience is required to have it successfully done

Hope it helps to update and enjoy the system performance later

Thanks for your answer. We have two Optimus Ones. Here are the details on both:

The one that runs Norwegian language without problems:

Android-version: 2.2
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
lg-electronics@si-rd10-build120 #1
Tue Oct 12 15.45.05 EDT 2010
Version number:
FRF91
Program version:
V10c-OCT-12-2010

The one that runs Norwegian language, but reverts back to German and Swedish when turned off and on again:

Android-version: 2.2
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
lg-elctronics@sl-rd10-build120 #1
Sun Sep 26 12 12.35.15 EDT 2010
Version number:
FRF91
Program version:
V10a-SEP-25-2010

I've performed a factory reset on this one, but it's still not possible to set Norwegian as default language....

If you have "LG mobile support tool" installed on computer with internet access, please try to update the phones. Latest official firmware should be Android version 2.2.1, version FRG83, program version V10E-NOV-30-2010, maybe this will fix this issue. See this site (tab "Software update") for more info :
LG Product Support for LGP500

hope this helps

I think this will be some error in software (it's strange for me to see 2 same kernel builds with different build date, this looks like problem on LG side).

Tried to update firmware, but got the following message: "The Cell phone is the latest version already. So you don't need to update" The program also states I have V10A.

I've heard about LG and Samsung (and also other producers) pulling back updates or updating just phones in some areas (sometimes with reason, sometimes without reason). It looks like update for your version isn't ready yet (maybe it's build with scandinavian languages, which are not installed in phones for, for example, central Europe?; can be also phone branded for some operator, which are always updates very late). I've also seen in P500 forum few questions about update, so the firmware is available just for some phones now ( http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-one-p500/ ), probably it will become available also for your phones later.
Unfortunately I can't help more, there's no way how to readout boot application logs from Android phone (there's one, but too complicated).
I recommend to take the phone to shop, show them the problem (and tell them the difference between working and not working phone, which is, I think, just kernel build date). Normally service center can reflash the firmware (in case of software problem they usually do it, first step is to make hard-reset and then flash latest firmware).
