Help Cannot Connect Captivate to Windows 7

I could really use some help before i go completely mad here:
I cannot connect my Samsung Captivate to my new desktop running Windows 7 64.
I have read all the posts concerning this and tried everything suggested:

Different USB slots
Uninstalling device
Uninstalling and re-installing drivers (I'm using ones found on this forum)
Kies (installed)
Using Mass Storage
unplugging any other mass storage devices (external hard drive)

I tried uninstalling all the USB devices, but this inevitably leads to no working mouse and keyboard, and then rebooting, and then: still no captivate recognition.

NOTHING is working, and I am at my wit's end.

Any other thoughts?

I went thru the same thing a few months ago. That cotton-picker wouldn't hook to any puter. I spent a lot of my life (wasted) trying to resolve, and finally started using SoftDatacable. After a small learning curve, it worked very well for transferring dcim and mp3's. Then, magically about 3 months later, the usb started working. Some app "update" may have bricked my usb port, or some such. Then, apparently another "update" corrected the problem. Just my guess.

I still haven't resolved the music pausing randomly on Phone. With any player. What's wierd, it does the pause on Youtube on PC exactly the same way.
Both Google owned entities. That may or may not have any connection to pausing, but................!!?? On the pc, when it pauses Youtube, the mouse and any video, including Cooledit, and/or Audacity stops responding.

Gets maddening, trying to keep up with all these problems. We get to be slaves to this tech. stuff.. Not to mention car problems, cable co. problems, etc.

Try the usb in a month or 2. It may surprise you. Soooo many bits of data can wreck havoc at any point, with any of the hardware or software mechanisms.
