Help Cannot connect to camera

I get the error message 'cannot connect to camera' when I try to use the camera app. I get a force close when I try to use the camcorder app (which appears to be the same app). These were working yesterday. I went into settings and cleared the data and there was no cache to clear.
Any suggestions?
