Help Cannot connect to PC in dowload mod

I use Kies.
Normally can be connected.
I want to make root and then ROM.

First things to try are a different USB cable - they're the most common source of connection issues - and that the phone is in MTP mode, in vanilla android this is:

Settings .. Storage .. Menu (3 vertical dots) .. USB computer connection

.. and select MTP

I still have Android 2.3.6, ver S7500BUMB1, and there is no such option in settings.
My purpose is to install a ROM with 4.2.2.
Ultimately can I use a hard reset to fix the connection to the computer?
