Gents,
Have you encountered this error message while you connect your phone via USB to laptop but unable to delete folder Error message : "cannot delete test the storage is write-protected. Remove the protection and try again".

Steps taken as of now:-
- Try creating test folder on phone memory and SD card and try deleting it but having error as above.
- Tried on my Samsung S2..able to create test folder and delete so no issues on my laptop.
- enabled USB debugging and tested , still fails

Phone Model : Samsung S4
Android Version : 4.4.2

Hello and welcome.

I'll post as if your using a Windows PC can see your S4 as a device in Windows Explorer and if double clicked on you have your phone and memory card to choose from.

Now my guess is the folder you wish to delete is on your external memory card (your removable micro SD card). Unfortunately the symptoms you describe if it is the micro SD card are the early signs of the micro SD card failing.

In the past I have had one that I could do anything with on the phone yet the PC could not do anything with it, the files and files were there but double clicking them would result in the card disappearing in Windows Explorer. Removing the card and putting it in a card reader and it would just not show up, and then, in a very short time the phone couldn't "see" it either.

I suggest backing up all the media off of it immediately because if the card is going corrupt you'll lose it all.

Hi Dynomot,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes I am running Windows 7 on my laptop. Issue I am facing is that I cant even delete a folder on my phone memory as well as my memory card.
I just created a "test" folder on both and try to delete it and its appearing
"Cannot delete test the storage is write-protected. Remove the protection and try again"

I am concern about memory on my phone as its approaching its threshold and I want to transfer certain folders to memory card but its failing. Can you share your thoughts.

Cheers.

Check your developer options if the "Protect SD Card" option is checked....
