Help cannot download apps!

I cannot seem to download free apps on my HTC desire HD. I sign into my googlemail account and then go to Market and click on install when I have selected an app. I accept the next screen, it then says my app will be downloaded, and then it never is!?? This is despite excellent wifi signal! I wondered if you could help?
 
having a similar problem
Everything was working fine until an hour ago, downloaded 2 appa, went to open them and it wont let me. The "open" box is shaded so you cant even click it
Anyone help?
 
I've experienced this from time to time - I think the market sometimes falls over and it takes Google a while to crank it up again. In the past things have always started working again after a few hours or so but, on the other hand, my phone is now running the new version of market (the new version looks very different and doesn't have the three tabs on each app screen) and, since upgrading earlier today, I've not been able to download anything. I'm hoping this doesn't mean there's an issue with the upgrade, so feedback regarding this aspect would be helpful.
 
Ok, I have just download angry birds and that opened up fine no probs, I then downloaded simi clock and overlay skin and back to sq one, open box is shaded , will not open

Could someone if they have time download one of the 2 above and see what happens, I will then know whether its just me or the market thats at fault

Following the advice to sign in to Google Talk to fix the problem, I'm now downloading stuff from the market again. But since Google wanted to move me from the googlemail domain to the gmail domain, I've had a bit of a split personality and I'm wondering how to sign in to the market with the gmail rather than the googlemail account.

Just successfully downloaded and installed SiMi Clock.

I am signed into google talk so its not that, going to clear some caches and see how that works. I unistalled the market update but when I try to download something its updating quicker then I can type:(

I have browsed the ggogle forums and theres a few people with same problem, have signed up the replies so hopefully a solution soon
