I'm unable to enter my local SMSC number on my rooted Galaxy Note.
If I click on "Refresh, it returns "00". If I attempt enter the number manully, (in my case 96197777) it just returns "update error".
This seems to be a common problem but I've been unable to find a solution by Googling around.
This happened once before and all I had to do then was hit refresh and update.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

UPDATE
I just installed Gingerbread 2.3.6 as confirmed by Settings > About Phone
and
1. it made no difference to the problem I describe above
2. all my settings, data and apps are still there.
3. the phone is still rooted.
I assumed all that would get wiped with a f/w upgrade. The instructions I followed said the phone would be reverted to non-rooted. Did I do something wrong?
