Root Cannot factory reset phone

Shinkus

Lurker
I have tried to reset my phone using both the factory reset option that is available under settings as well as the option in recovery mode to no avail. The phone will go to reboot and will not move past the white Incredible screen. Any help that can be given is appreciated, thanks.

download rom manager from the market (if you haven't already), then select the option to flash clockwork recovery, (you may also be prompted for superuser access, allow it/remember the choice) do it about 5-6 times. then choose the option "reboot into recovery". In there you will see the option to wipe data. use the volume keys to highlight it and press down on the trackball to select it, you will then be prompted to confirm your selection. While in recovery, you may also want to wipe the cache, and dalvik (in the advanced menu), the first boot will take a while after performing those steps (up to 5-6 minutes).

edit: on another read of your post, you can't boot into your phone at all?
if that's the case, press and hold down the volume *down* button until the phone turns on, use volume keys to highlight recovery and use the power button to choose it, then follow instructions above, and reflash rom, or restore nandroid if applicable.

To your edit, that was a mistake on my end for wording that so poorly. I meant that when I press reset on my phone that it begins to reboot and then sticks to the white Incredible screen.

I tried the steps you listed above to get things working but the same thing that normally happens to me happened again. I got up to the "reboot into recovery" option and when I press it the phone reboots and freezes on the white Incredible screen again. Thanks for the suggestions though.

are you able to get into recovery by the other method i listed? (hold down volume while turning the phone on)

Just attempted going into recovery through the way you had listed but was once again greeted with the white Incredible screen and was unable to go forward.
