Root Cannot get into recovery?

I'm rooted fine. Have a twrp back up. Trying to install a new rom however I cannot get into recovery mode via any app, hard buttons, or anything.

Any help or idea in "root for dummies" speak would be awesome.

Im stuck....since when does a phone NOT have an accessible recovery menu

I assume that you managed to get in to a custom recovery to make the TWRP backup?

All that I know of (CWM, Philz, XZDual) light the notification LED during boot (colour varies with the recovery), at which point one presses VOL_UP to enter the recovery menu.
