Help Cannot get Rogers 3G to work on my Milestone

Hello all. I've literally been online for the last five hours attempting to figure out why I can't get 3G, and I cannot for the life of me figure out what's wrong.

I purchased an unlocked Motorola Milestone from a store on Ebay.ca called AC Electronic; I've changed APN settings, checked build numbers, scoured the internet from head to tow, and simply can't figure out why 3G seems to work for others and not me.

Living in: ontario, canada
Provider: Rogers Wireless
Model number: "Milestone"
Firmware version: "2.1-update1"
Baseband version: "3GSMEPU91A_U_91.07.4EI"
Kernel version: "2.6.29-hiapk", and below that it says www.HiAPK.com #1 (this seems really odd to me, and I haven't found anyone else with a kernel version that says this...)
Build number: Hiapk_1.41_SHOLS_google
Production Team: www.HiAPK.com Ver 1.41_SHOLS_google

Again, I've googled the APN settings for Rogers' network and it still keeps me on Edge... can anyone help??

Yes that was the first thing I did, I have all the APN settings from that page and while it still connects me to their network, it only connects me to the Edge network (indicated by an E)

I'm thinking maybe I have the wrong firmware? And that I'll have to root my phone to flash a Canadian version onto it?

Does anyone know?

Are you sure you have a Milestone that supports the Rogers 3G frequencies (850/1900)?

Some European Milestones do not support those frequencies.

That's really unnerving to hear, because the phone I received came with a European power adapter, and I had no idea what it was at first... one of the 220 volt things.

How do I check if it's a European model? The phone that was advertised on the ebay store said WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM 850/900/1800/1900 / CDMA2000 1X 1900/800, so it was advertised as 3G compatible. Is there any way to check the model??

"3G compatible" is a trick most people use.
All phones will be 3g compatible but it doesn't mean it is compatible where you are.

Rogers 3g network is 850 and 2g is 850/1900
