Root Cannot get RUU to Work

PDilyard

Lurker
I'm trying to get S-off on my Virgin Mobile HTC Evo V 4G, and I see that it requires the Stock RUU. Every time I try to run the RUU.exe, I get a 150 Unknown Error.

My guess is that this is caused by the fact that I have Hboot 1.58. Is there a way I can downgrade to 1.57 (or any version that would work)?

Thanks,
Paul

After taking the latest ota update there is no way to run the ruu unless you already have s-off. The best you can do is just be as close to stock as possible. Be on the stock rom. Some people have problems, some don't. Many have s-offed without the ruu, but some people have hit more snags than others.

Also, I'm moving this over to the all things root section.

So do you think it would be a good idea to go ahead and try this?

Unlimited.IO

It clearly states that Stock Rooted will not work...is it possible that it might?

On another, semi-unrelated note:
My phone keeps prompting me to update it's OS, but when I click "Install Now," it just boots to Recovery and says "Install Failed." The reason I don't like this is because I have a running notification that keeps telling me to install update....it's really annoying to have it in the Notification Bar all the time.

Do you have custom recovery? You need the stock one to install OTA updates. But if you have an update that's weird considering you have hboot 1.58 and still have another update... Hmmm.
