Root Cannot Go into recovery mode (Huawei Ascend)

have you tried rebooting the phone first before trying it, also did you do the update yourself?

By rebooting you mean turning the phone on and off? Yes I did, and which update? froyo 2.2? Yeah, a month ago i did it through the metro app store, i downloaded the package from there, and thats why I used gingerbreak to root it since it was the only one that would work with 2.2 froyo. Why?

P.S. Now I am back to stock tho

for stock use z4root, but if you at stock dont root it if your going to update it to metro 2.2.2 and dont delete any apps untill you update it cause it will cause problems.

I see =) I won't delete any. So should I download z4root from 4shared and go from there? (Btw, does it matter which version of z4root i use?)

I am not planning to update to 2.2, I want to install CM7 on my device but from stock. Am I on track?

EDIT:

I just downloaded and installed z4root. It is permanent root, correct?

you can install cm7 without rooting your phone, just install cwm recovery and put the cm7.zip and gapps and metro off v1.3 if your on metro than boot into recovery and flash away...;)

Put these files on the main area of your sdcard

CM7.1RC1-Ascend-BobZ-07082011.zip

gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip

Flash this if metro is your carrier---> http://www.mediafire.com/?q83m25ls8p5vnvi

and follow this guide, scroll down to CM7: http://androidforums.com/ascend-all-things-root/320265-ultimate-ascend-customization-guide.html

Thank you kevinrubio and nuttmeg for helping me through the process ;) The phone is running smoothly and is much more responsive now.

So far i have no issues with CM7 on my phone other than mms. For some reason it takes ages to send a picture, sometimes successfully other times failing lol.

Another weird thing, whenever take a screenshot of my phone and send it through mms, the recipient gets it as a black picture, so im not sure if it has to do with the .png extension (both phones i sent it to -separately, in two messages- were androids as well)

I have the same issue but when I fastboot it goes to the Andriod screen and no CWM recovery at all :( - Two days no and nothing

No problem :)

The ascend is not a fast phone, I recently discovered that when you do fastboot, volume up, call, and power, that you should'nt take your fingers off of those buttons til the white huawei screen flashes briefly, otherwise it will continue to try to boot.

HELP!!! I have tried to do these and other steps 1000s of times and my comp still says waiting for device! you can pm me if it faster or you can stay on this thread idgaf i just want a diff ROM on this dumb phone! :-)

EDIT: also if i plug my phone in via usb before i try the reboot stuff it will says that its there but if i wait to go to the huawei screen it wont show up...yet in both situations it continues to say waiting for device

Try re-installing the AscendUSBDrivers.zip Download it and extract the zip file, run the PCOptions, select install usb drivers (or uninstall then reinstall with the same step) then once the config window goes away plug your phone in and they will automatically install.

UPDATE:

I got it to work!! (apparently). What I did this time was:

I opened ROM Manager

Selected "Go into Recovery Mode". It would reboot and stay only in the Huawei screen.

Then connected my phone to the computer

This time it appeared that my pc recognized my phone

Opened "Adb", then "Fastboot", and finally "install recovery"

Then booted into cwm by pressing VOLUME ROCKER UP+CALL BUTTON+POWER

At the moment i am backing up all my data since I want to set my phone back to stock factory, and from there install CM7.

Am I doing good so far? Thank you for your support
i have been trying this for 2days it all seems to flash fine from from computer to phone but still after i unplug cable and pull battery it just stays at the huawei screen what button is the call button ????
