Root cannot install ANY custom roms: HELP!

I have got a problem that has been driving me insane. I am running android 2.2.3 on a Droid 1, Baseband version: C_01.43.01P, Kernel: 2.6.32.9-g68eeef5android-build@apa26 #1, Build Number: FRK76. I have used superoneclick 1.7 with rageagainstthemachine to root. Here are my problems

1. I can inconsistently boot into clockworkmod recovery 3.1.0.2, all other versions don't work.

2. I have tried to install InsertCoin_ICS_RC1_4.5.0.zip which gives me the Status 7 Error and no matter how many times I try to install it, the same happens.

3. I have tried to go the update.zip way which generates the E: Signature Verification failed error.

4. I have tried to install via download with Rom Manager, which freezes at the Motorola logo.

5. Installing a zip from sd card via Clockworkmod recovery (downloaded from Rom Manager only) will start to install and it takes a very short time to install and says its finished. upon Booting up, it gets stuck in Boot loop. I have tried Cyanogenmod cm7 and cm9 along with gingerbread_sholes-ota-eng.nickeubanks.zip all to the same result.

Things I have tried:
Re-Rooting: nope
Re-downloading all zips: nope
Unpacking and re zipping all roms: nope
fixing permissions via rom manager: nope
fixing permissions via terminal: su fix_permissions: nothing
fixing permissions via terminal: adb shell fix_permissions: adb denied
installing rom via SPRecovery 0.99.3b: same negative results

I am a noob at android hacking and the best I have done is to successfully root my droid. I would love to take advantage of custom roms but these problems are driving me insane and I would love to know how to fix them. Please help our a poor noob if you can.

I have the exact same problem with my og Droid. Can't find any help anywhere. Just came from the Ally and this seems to be a lot different.

Edit- I evedently fixed my problem with rsdlite and sprecovery... finally got CM7 flashed.

Same problem with my droid. It sucks.

If same problem you mean you can't get a custom recovery to stick then you need to do some adb or terminal commands to make it stick. Or sometimes, using Rom Manager, flash SPRecovery, then Clockworkmod recovery then try flashing your rom.

Who is John Galt?

good luck
