Root Cannot lock or unroot Rezound

wmaudio

Lurker
I have an HTC Rezound, and I unlocked it and rooted it (stock .11 ROM) and everything was fine. Then, the phone started getting way too hot (screen, battery) so I took it into Verizon and they said they would replace it. I now have my replacement phone and I'm trying to re-lock and unroot the phone, but when I use HTC's tool or the Root Toolkit to re-lock the phone, I get this:
-----
(bootloader) Lock successfully...
(bootloader) TZ_HTC_SVC_DISABLE ret = 134086000 (0x7FDFD70)
FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))
finished. total time: 0.937s

The phone reboots, and the loader indicates "Re-locked" and something about a security issue. However, I am unable to boot the phone into the OS; rebooting, powering off, pulling the battery, wiping data, etc. all results in the phone returning to the FastBoot screen when turned on. I also tried installing the OTA .11 RUU EXE, but got an error indicating the bootloader was the wrong version. I am able to unlock the phone again using HTC's tool and the phone then boots normally, but if I re-lock thep hone again, I have the same issue. Could someone please help? Thanks in advance.

Any detail on what the security error cited? Did you relock the before running the RUU? That can cause the wrong version error. The security error probably triggered b/c it came up as the wrong RUU. Are you certain your firmware is the most current version available? If not, it could be a partition conflict.

Mine started rebooting by it selft this morning. I had the phone unlocked and rooted (Stock ROM) so when I locked the phone I got the same error. When I try to go to recovery I get:
*** RELOCKED ***
*** Security Warning ***
VIGOR PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.11.0000
RADIO-0.95.00.1118r/0.95.00.1223r
OpenDSP-v10.6.0.7611.00.0919

Any Ideas how to fix this? I cant use the phone

Nothing to fix. The security warning is normal. If you're getting reboots, make sure you have Fastboot turned off in Settings. Some apps don't work well with Fastboot enabled.

I can't even get into settings. I did my RUU and got the same thing. I have no ability to do anything but stay in Fastboot. how can I turn it off without going into settings??? I am a noob, so be as step by step as you can...

If your phone keeps rebooting into Fastboot, it might be that your SD card has a PH98IMG file on it. I would pull your external SD card out of the phone and remove any .IMG and .ZIP files, maybe delete everything after copying the contents of the card to a computer. Then, with the phone powered off (pull the battery then replace), hold volume down + power to boot into recovery. You should get the stock recovery. From recovery, do a wipe of everything and then reboot.
