cannot navigate on recovery screen

Hi all,

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace gt-s5830 unlocked to all networks from my brother as he has said it does not work no more. I have turned it on and as the Samsung logo comes up it all fades to a light blue coloured screen and just stays like that.
I've booted into the Android system recovery menu where I have 5 options
-reboot system now
-apply update from sdcard
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-test redbend fota[FS]

then at the bottom it says in yellow
-- Appying Muti-CSC --
E:failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)

There is also no sd card in the device.

Now whilst in this screen I cannot use the volume/ navigation buttons to select any of the options so I'm just stuck here now.

Can anyone suggest anything that could help at all?

Thanks

Welcome to AF vivalamac, Try looking around in here. Sounds like a bricked phone but cant be positive Try pulling the battery, then find an sd-card to put in it, reboot and see what happens then.. These people will know for sure.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Unfortunately I haven't got a card to put in it. Is there any other way without an sd card maybe?

Thanks.

I dont think an sd-card is completely necessary, but I would still check the galaxy ace forum.

thanks again.
Just looked and cannot find anything that relates to the volume buttons not working. It wont boot in download mode either which sucks, as now I cant use the odin software either :/

Sounds like it's bricked.:(

Yeh I came to this conclusion the second I had it. Does anyone have any information on why the volume buttons would not be working? Would it have anything to do with the fact it's bricked or the buttons are just F'd up?

Very hard to say - all we know is that it doesn't respond to them when in recovery. Admittedly "buttons are broken" is the simplest explanation for that (or "a button is broken" - if one were solidly on it might stop the phone registering presses of another), but it's hard to be definitive.

Normally I'd say that if you can get into recovery it's not a true brick, but if you can't actually do anything there's not much difference in practice :(

I don't know Samsungs, but I would guess that getting Odin to recognise it would be your best bet. /system is where the ROM lives, so if the phone is having trouble with that partition it's going to take more than a factory reset (which despite the name just wipes user data) to fix it.
