Help Cannot receive mms

I have a stock galaxy nexus. Recently I have not been able to receive mms picture messages. It will show in the drag down menu but when I select it the message disappears. not sure what to do. I looked around and couldn't find what I needed. Thanks for the help.
 
Yes if it was that the message wouldn't disappear. I see the name in the drag down menu however when I go into the messages it isn't there
 
Have you checked your APN settings? Perhaps set them to default (after copying the current - just in case)?
 
Not sure what that is. I am pretty good with technology I just don't usually do too much modification. So where are these settings
 
Settings > More > Mobile Networks > Access Points

Then I would rename the one already there as a back up if I were you.

Then create a new APN and give it the name of your original. Once you create the new one "restore defaults" for it

Reboot phone and pray.
 
I've had the same problems receiving MMS before. Now I make sure my wi-fi is off (and data is on) before I try to open a MMS. I actually have Tasker turn it off automatically for 3 minutes when I receive a MMS. This gives me time to open it.
 
I've had this issue several times in the past. And I'm experiencing it again. I've somehow gotten the messages to come through in the past, but no luck this time. Normally, I am always on mobile data since I still have unlimited and 4G is faster than my home wifi. Now, I'm at my summer job and there's no wifi for several miles and I'm on pretty bad 3G service. I thought that the service might be an issue here, so I've tried everything I can do in town, where there is good service, but no luck. Notification is there and I've done everything short of a hard reset (I've done them in the past with no success). VZW told me there's absolutely nothing they can do except replace the phone.

I highly suggest you get the Verizon Messages app from the play store.

MMS messaging has been shaky since I bought this phone...sometimes it worked (connected to Wi-Fi or not) other times I'd have to restart the phone or go into and out of airplane mode to get MMS to work. Particularly frustrating for group messaging.

The Verizon Messages service allows you to receive messages on your tablet, PC, and phone...all in one place. As a byproduct, it handles MMS messaging much better (I imagine it's able to simply use Wi-Fi to make things run more smoothly, but I haven't tested that yet).

MMS needs data service, tho, so if you have no/poor Wi-Fi or data you'll always have issues.
