Lurker
i have done this procedure 3 times, 2 times backwards (for the quarantee) because some buttons were broken..

this time everything just won't work..
Visionary 14r+ when i attempt to temproot now it gives me black screen

i searched a bit and another solution is advanced ace hak kit (aahk). I am using Windows 8 so the installation of the HTC DRIVER wasn't compatible.. so a guy said to isntall HTC Sync (and will automatically install htc drivers).. i done so, when rightclicking hack-ace -> run as administrator it says:

DA2gn.png

i even tried to see if the programm HTC SYNC works, and when activating htc sync in phone it won't find the pc.. weird?

Tell me if you think the problem is Windows 8, i will go to a friend's computer with windows 7 and try to do it...

[EDIT] forgot to say some things:

PC: Windows 8 enterprise x64
Phone has android 2.3.5 (because i just got it back from HTC)...
dhd connected via cable with the computer
Usb debugging mode is on

In general, I would not advised using Windows to do this. The requirement for a clean environment seems to mean that if it is not clean enough the operation may fail. Linux or a Mac would be better as you avoid the driver issue completely.

Since you have a Windows PC I recommend you do it using a Ubuntu 32-bit Live CD.

if you do need to use windows, seems windows 7 or below would be a better choice, and if you can use a PC thats never had any phone stuff installed, all the better. easy tether, htc sync, pda net, pretty much any program capable of communicating with the phone,as ral said, can goof thigns up,give you wierd errors, and just not work

i persoanlly have not had any trouble getting things to work in a windows environment, but plenty of folks have. linux live cd is not a bad idea at all,tho i have no experience with that,so wont be good for offering advice. you can download ubuntu and burn to a bootable cd for free.

Well actually, that is what attn1 wrote in his effen manual. Scared me half to death so I reached for my Mac :vroam:

If you are looking for a technical reason, I think it is because if you dig deep enough into Android, Linux and Mac OSX, you will find Unix inside. I have a Linux and Mac laptops, and noticed that the config files of these two operating systems look a lot like Androids. Even the governors used are the same.

Well Android is a Linux-based operating system :D

Yes i have dualboot windows 8 and ubuntu!

1. Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit
2. in the effen it says :
For 64-bit systems, you must install ia32-libs (Debian based) or equivalent. For Ubuntu, run this command from terminal:
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

i already have them installed.
3. I run in terminal the hack-ace.sh:
4. Dhd in charge mode
5. Connected with cable
6. Usb debugging on

and it shows me this:

that looks about like what it looks like in windows. :)
read the FAQ in the effin manual and it tells you where to get the passkey... if thats what your question is(CAJUN.txt)

ive seen "program interferance" plenty of times helping folks trouble shoot prollems with my various guides. ive never had prollems using windows(id like to use ubuntu, but it makes me feel stupid whever i try and do anythign with it ) but ive seen plenty instances, even just entering commands manually in a cmd window, not using a complex tool. commands will look correct, things look like they should work just fine, but they hang, give errors, etc.

if your proficient in linux that would definately be the way to go. :smokingsomb:

In fairness when I did this I got stuck here too. Read the manual again, and again (5th and 6th times) and eventually Google'd the solution :banghead:

Linux is easy to get used to, but you really have to check your app/software list and see if you can find a good Linux compatible equipment. The OS is great and there is a user interface for everybody. The software it has available to it is rather limited. Even when alternatives do exist, they are not that good especially in terms of user interface or general usability. Think of it as Android with a 10,000 app, app store. The more of a Windows power user you are, the harder it is to migrate.

Not meaning to demean Linux, but thats the way it is. Everyone is focused on building a super OS and ultimate UI... it was good enough years ago. It just needs more apps.

Thanks for posting the end result. It is important to use to find out how things turned out.
