Help Cannot send replies to sms

Lurker
Hi,

I received my new, unlocked S4 yesterday and found that I had been sent a Verizon SCH I545 model. I am in the UK so am running into a few issues as to be expected.

The main one is that I can send and receive text messages, however cannot reply to a message. I assume it is probably because the reply message number is prefixed with +44 is there any way around this? I have turned off call assist as I could not make outgoing calls.

Also whenever I turn my phone on I get a notification to say there is a non Verizon sim in the phone. I can get rid of this message by force stopping set up wizard, however don't want to keep doing this.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Lisa

Sounds like it's not completely unlocked or APN settings need to be set for your current carrier. You might've been better off just getting an International S4.

I'm sure there are tutorials around for how to fix the APN/SMS settings which you'll need to get from your SIM's carrier to see if that alleviates some of your problems.

Thanks. I wasn't aware I was getting a phone from the US it was bought from Ebay where the seller stated he was in the UK.
I have set up the APN as per my provider and can get data, etc it's just the inability to reply to a text message... although I can send new messages... just a niggle on a fabulous phone

Well depending on how long you've had it, you have every right to request a refund or at least open a dispute with eBay/PayPal directly. The amount of S4 fraud going on is crazy. At least yours was real. Many have been getting fakes made in Asia with missing software, hardware, or a phone altogether (store display dummies some random junk inside just for weight).

I was going to do that until I noticed the small writing at the bottom of listing stating I would receive 1 of 3 stated models.... each one when googled was a US network phone.
To be honest for the money I've saved I can work around the issue but would still appreciate any other suggestions to fix this.
Thanks for your help

Fine print... A buyer's worst enemy, lol. Well at least everything else works but that minor annoyance. If anything, take your question to androidcentral.com's forums or XDA. There may be others who have imported US phones or traveled with one and can help you out better.

I can use all the other functions though so surely that's not the case. I was able to change the settings to gsm....
