Help Can't access stock recovery on Droid 3

I am running a Droid 3 stock (no rooting or anything) and I was going to try to install the new update that is available, but I am unable to access recovery. When I try, it just takes me to a screen with the android logo and an exclamation point in a triangle. At this point it is unresponsive and I have to pull the battery. Any ideas about what is wrong / how to fix this? Even if I don't get the update installed, I am a little concerned that I am unable to even access the recovery. Thanks!
