Root Can't boot into recovery >< Help?

Neutralia

Lurker
I'm really stuck on this one. So I rooted my DX with this guys tutorial: HD Step by Step Tutorial: Install MIUI on the Droid X with GB Kernel, Plus Extended Settings - YouTube

Worked flawlessly. Flashed MIUI. After a while I realized most of my contacts were missing. Need backup assistant to get them back (can't access that through MIUI). I had made backups so all I wanted to do is restore them and get me back to the stock motorola rom (still rooted though). I was trying to boot the phone into clockwork recovery somehow (messed around with bootstrapper and rom manager) and now it's basically just brought the phone to stock MIUI and I'm stuck. There's no data on the phone anymore no idea why. So I can't set up a gmail account when I turn the phone on. And I still can't find a way to get into clockwork recovery. Ive got the backups I can see them in the file. I'm stuck I feel like I've tried everything. Everytime i try booting into recovery mode it just restarts the phone and brings me to the set up page of MIUI as if it was the first time I flashed the rom. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You can't use droid/droid2 bootstrap with 2nd init roms like CM7 or MIUI.

Open terminal program and type

su
cat.jpg

Press the menu button and choose "close window".

Now Rom Manager will let you boot into recovery.

You might want to restore your backup from recovery. (You made one for occasions like this, right?) Then start over.

You have no data b/c you formatted it, which is what you need to do when going to a different rom.

Thanks for the reply.

That's what I'm trying to do, restore my backup from recovery to stock rom. I'll reflash MIUI again from there if I have to I don't care.

But sorry I'm not as informed on the subject as I'd like to be, when you say open terminal program what do you mean?

I assume you meant a terminal emulator? When I tried that it says "Cannot create /cache/recovery/bootmode.conf: directory non existant.

Yes, a terminal app. Did you turn on root? By default it's turned off in MIUI. New to MIUI

Press power button, reboot, cwm recovery should be an option. Depending on the version you have, it might work.

Option three, reboot and when you see the blue led press the down volume button to get a boot menu with recovery being an option. Do this as a last resort tho. They don't recommend this for installing a rom. Sorry don't know the details.

Yea made sure root was on, terminal didn't work still says the same error.

Tried cwm recovery before didn't work. Tried it again just now to double check still didn't work.

Tried holding the volume down button but my front led doesn't work anymore (don't ask, I have no idea why haha) So I don't know exactly when to press it but i tried it consistently at different intervals.
The only thing along that line that works is holding down + and - volume and power button for me. Brings me to a screen that says:

Bootloader
30.04

Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data cable

Doesn't seem to be a way to navigate through that stuff anyway.
I'm really stumped here have no idea what to do. The strangest thing is that I don't have 3G data anymore. Before I ended up with the reflash of MIUI it was working fine this morning. I can't even seem to connect to wifi. Which sucks cause in order to play around with some things in rom manager you need wifi/data.

What options dyou think I have? Do I have to sbf or something?

You might want to sbf, root, then restore your backup. That would be more work, but probably get you a function phone sooner.

If you sbf, DON'T take the 621 update, since that might leave you without root for some time.

Alright well it doesn't seem like I really have a choice. But I've never sbf'd before. Would you know how to go about doing it or dyou have links to any tutorials?

There's a tutorial in a sticky at the top of this forum.
