Root Can't boot into recovery

Before the RM update a few days ago, I was able to reboot into recovery successfully for the first time. The only difference was I moved the recovery.img from clockworkmod file to the root SD. There was already a file named "recovery-from-boot.p.old" there, and after a boot to stock recovery, got stuck in a boot-loop. After moving recovery.img to the root SD I went back to RM, flashed CMR, and then was able to reboot into recovery and haven't had any problems since. I am still unable to flash SPR, have no idea why or the ramifications of that but I've been good to go running cyanogen.

I currently have CM 6.1.2 on my phone and wish to upgrade to the latest 7.0.0 RC. My problem is that I can't boot into recover mode to backup my current ROM or install new ones. I currently have CM Recover 2.5.0.1. I have seen recommendations to flash the alternate recovery (SPRecovery) and back to CMR, but every time I try, I get the error "an error occurred while flashing your recovery." I have tried booting into recovery about 10x, and it hasn't worked once since I installed CM 6.1.2. Flashing other versions of clockwork fail, and the method where you hold x with the power button doesn't work either.

I have tried using some of the suggestions on this thread, but my phone doesn't seem to have any of the files that have been discussed. For example, my /data directory is empty and I can't find any files with the word "recovery" in them anywhere on my phone.

Thanks!

i went thru a spell where i couldnt flash clockwork... i kept getting that error while flashing message. what finally fixed it for me,was to go into the clockwork mod folder and delte all the subfolders except for "backup"(defiantely DONT delete that one! and it wouldnt be a bad idea to back the other ones up first, justin case) then try and flash clockwork again. as was mentioned, clear download cache, and make sure "erase old recovery" is checked.

In my clockworkmod folder, I don't even have a "recovery" folder. I have a "download" folder, and the following files.
.hidenandroidprogress
.rommanager_market_license
.settings

I tried moving the "download" folder, and I'm still getting the same errors. The strange thing is that I can always successfully flash Clockworkmod 2.5.0.1, but not any others. I want to try another recovery since I'm not able to boot into recovery mode at all. Any other ideas? This is so frustrating!

I found a potential culprit. I tried following the steps in http://androidforums.com/droid-all-things-root/94420-fix-i-cant-boot-into-recovery.html to make the two flash_image scripts and running them using gScript Lite. I did that, and I was getting "out of memory" errors. I have 32 MB free in internal memory (12%), which seems like it should be enough. What could be causing this error? The flash_image and the recovery images are all in the sdcard directory.

Sorry for a delay, but since your phone will boot up normally, open rom manager and then go here:
Code:
menu -> Clear Download Cache
then:
Code:
menu -> settings -> Advanced Mode [check]
then go towards the bottom of the main screen in Rom Manager and under "more Recoveries" select "Flash Alternate Recovery". After it completes then go back to the top and flash CWRecovery again and see if it will take.

good luck

Just wanted to comment that this solved the problem for me. Thanks a ton.

Phone doesnt turn on much anymore it goes to bootloader only when i power and hold d tap but then blank and goes to M logo then nothing. I did clockwork recovery and cynaogen 6 and didnt like it and wiped everything. At first i was able to do nandroid backup complete but that was it until screen said at bootloader "battery low and "cannot program. What would this mean? Two days before i did this the battery was fine and i was running 2.2 update no rooting. Something went really wrong all i get is M logo blinking off and on while charging too. I have not been able to recover anything now. I am stopped at the M logo or once and awhile bootloader flashes when i power up and hold D tap but thats it need take battery off to get out of M logo

After I flashed cyanogen 7.1, I could'nt make a backup of the rom or install a new kernel (would not go into the recovery menu, either through clockwork or through holding the x+power button <I has an OG droid>)

Did some digging, found this thread and this post helped me out :) My droid is backing up as I type this (which it would not do before, it would just go to the "M", hang there for a min or so, then reboot).

Good info :)

This was the post that helped me fix my OG Droid!
I was having the same issues as everyone else, couldn't flash squat.....was getting really frustrated....almost had to activate my second OG Droid....aka: (Dad's game phone). but I used this method above, & all is as it should be again.....Thanks!!
