Ok I went ahead and did something that fixed my problem... My wallpaper has not locked up in over 2 days (since approx Wed night when I made the change). I also re-enabled Wallswitch to change every 30 minutes to get the best test I could.
Here's what I did...(Though I don't recommend it for everyone for obvious reasons).
1) Wiped the phone via RUU recovery to Evo Rom 1.47.651.1
2) Used the SimpleRoot application to root the Evo ([Program] SimpleRoot .1 ---- 3 Click Root w/ nand unlock!! - xda-developers)
3) Flashed The "official" 2.2 rooted ROM from this thread (HTC OTA Froyo 2.2, *FINAL*, build 3.36.651.6 (Rooted) Odexed - xda-developers) Along with the 2 radio updates.
That left me with an up to date EVO with Froyo 2.2 rooted. Reinstalled my apps via a combination of Titanium Backup & Market and have everything back the way it was with no issues at all with my wallpaper.
I did notice one odd thing however, and I'm not sure if it's just 2.2 HTC's rom, or the version I installed but 'sometimes' when I navigate back home from say browsing for a while or other apps, the HTC Home app 'loads' up show the white/green HTC screen. It's as if perhaps HTC automatically is resetting. It only takes a second or two to finish loading the widgets, but I am wondering if that is why my wallpaper isn't locking up anymore.
Either way I'm happy
