Help Can't click a link in an email message

Lurker
You know how when someone sends you a link to something in an email and the letters are blue and underlined? Well, I have a HUGE issue with not being able to open/click any link that is inside an email message using the hotmail native mailbox on my Atrix Android. I have tried doing it in the google mailbox as well, best I could get was to copy the text. Not good enough. Also tried it with Droidmail. Nothing.

I came from iPhone, this was (to me) one of those things that I thought was always something that would just... work. It works on a PC, it works on iPhone, I would assume it works on a mac. Am I missing something here, or has this topic really, honestly never been talked about? It is driving me crazy..
Thanks.

The only thing I can think of is that Motorola disabled this feature due to conflicts of adding a Hotmail email app. Kind of similar to AT&T disabling side-loading apps on the Atrix.

In other words, its not Android, its the people who locked your phone down because they can.

I'm really realizing how little I know about my new phone. Are you suggesting that the best way to live is to "root" my phone? I'm guessing by doing that though, it'll start getting a lot more complicated. But that would be one of the perks that would be an advantage from doing so, right?

It's the unfortunate reality of buying a phone from a carrier. You'll get a discount, but you'll pay by having features locked down.

Rooting, and loading a different ROM will open up your phone. I've always been a fan of Cyanogen Mod. Rooting was easy for me because the Nexus 1 has an unlockable bootloader.

I'd highly suggest searching the net to see how hard it will be to gain root access to the Atrix. I've heard that you may have to jump through a few hoops because of the locked bootloader.

Ya, but what phone are you using? An Atrix? If so, it just strengthens my suggestion.

What we have here is an issue where all link tapping is disabled, not just in an app, but phone-wide.

What happens when you tap on a link inside a webpage from the browser?

Just to say, deep down, I hope linking in emails isn't purposely disabled.

There my be a bug in MotoBlur thats causing this problem or in one of AT&T's little pre-installed apps.

I hope somebody who does have a stock Atrix can chime in and confirm they can use links from their emails. Maybe this tread could get moved into the Atrix sub-forum for more specific visibility.

Yes im using an atrix!

I can click on links just fine using the web browser...it only wont let me click on links in emails I receive!

Why would motorola disable link clicking in email only? Seems more like a software bug to me

Fyi I can click on links from the facebook app...twitter...and phandroid app so it definatley is only happening inside emails!

Yep, same here. It's just in the email app. I had no issues rooting my Atrix this morning. Because I am using Bell, I found the right place I think to root my phone. I just followed the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016060

Everything went smoothly for me. Now I'm sitting here scratching my head as to what to do next... I think I'm supposed to like, get a new OS? Or you call it a ROM? Oh well, learn as I go.

But yes, I sent an email to the developer at Maildroid who is asking me questions about the issue in this thread. I will route him here for him to read about our discussion.

No problems with mine I can click a web address link from a text or email...I'm using Gmail and not Hotmail don't see why it would make a difference.

I came from an Iphone as well, only thing I missed from the Iphone to the Atrix was the screenshot but now have an application on the Atrix that does that...

I have come across this issue in e-mails before. Sometimes I can click on the link and other times I can't. I would say that 90% of the time I can open the link.

I'm not sure why you're having problems clicking on links in email. I use the Gmail app and can click on links. I can also click on links in Yahoo Mail. I have two browsers installed so when I click on the link it asks me to choose a browser and when I do it goes to that link. So it can't be anything with the Atrix or Android. It might have something to do with you cell provider. I'm with AT&T.

I have a STOCK Atrix on AT&T and have no problems clicking on links in emails so it can't be the Atrix or Android. Maybe the OP's cell provider???
