Can't connect my 4.04 tablet with my XP notebook using usb

I'm new to Android and have been trying to experiment with moving a few files onto the tablet from my xp notebook. I can't seem to get this done and most of the web sites offering guidance seem to offer differing techniques. Can I still connect them if I don't have an SD card in the tablet? It seems like I shouldn't need one to connect (I plan on getting one soon). Is there something I'm missing here that is keeping me from doing this? Do I need some sort of app to get this done? Do I need to download some sort of drivers? (my notebook is a dell xp). I've even looked in a couple android books but this procedure seems to either be glossed over or explained by doing it using wi-fi, which isn't the way I want to do it. Thanks. What Tablet is it?You may need to go to the tablet maker's site and get the Tablet's windows USB drivers.I have a Samsung Android phone/device and have to install the Samsung USB drivers into Win7/WinXP to use my usb connection.

The tablet is a VitalASC Sonic ST-0720...yeah...it was cheap. I'll check for usb drivers and report back. The skimpy manual kind of glosses over this type of connection. I can connect the pc and tablet to where it (the tablet) brings up the "Turn on USB storage" screen and click it "into the load mode". My xp sees a new drive but when I try to open it, it asks me to insert a disk into the drive....that's as far as I can get. Connecting via a network or wi-fi isn't really an option for me now...so I's like to figure the usb connection for now. Thanks
 
Hey it worked. I must have been connecting in the wrong order or something or had a setting not right. Now I might be able to do something other than play Angry Birds-Space. Now I need to figure out how to load apps onto it via the notebook.
 
I moved the tread to the forum for discussing tablets that don't have a dedicated forum. Perhaps you will encounter some more users of your tablet.

Your device will most likely already have an app/apk installer so test this.

This is a good apk site.No downloader redirects,just direct or external real links so download this little Clock,

Download Alarm Clock Plus 5.1.apk Android app

and copy it to your device and see if you can navigate to install it on your device.On my device I can long press on an .apk file in several of my apps like Es File explorer and choose to install but this may be because I already have an installer .apk installed but give it a go.

Also read and possibly download this apk,
Download Easy Installer - Install apk 3.0.6.apk Android app

If any don't install it's sometimes that the are not compatible so then search for another similar apk.As above.If you go to a different site and the file download has a .exe extension then don't trust it.You only want files with the .apk extension.

ok. I got them both installed and they seem to run fine. I copied the two apk files from my notebook into the tablet's Download folder, used my File Manager to find them, then tapped on the Alarm Clock and an Install Menu came up. I installed the "Installer" app next.

I finally feel like I can use this tablet now. Very cool.

I guess the alarm clock's free version is ad supported, which I guess is pretty typical.

This seems so easy in hindsight but it would have taken me forever to figure this out with the "manual" they gave me. I even checked out two Android books from the library and this procedure wasn't mentioned in either of them.

Thanks again for answering my follow-up questions. None of my friends have android devices so I'm learning all this from scratch.

Glad I could help.You don't need the clock app it was just the 1st quicky I found as an example.I have a rooted phone with an ad blocker so I didn't notice the ads.
I've only had Android for a few months but I'm used to repairing and modifying MS O/S for free since Win95 ;)
