Set up ad hoc wifi network on my Win7 laptop. Wifi Buddy app sees it, but the native Evo wifi app doesn't. I've seen that the HTC Magic has similar problems. Any suggestions?
Try installing the Wifi analyzer from the market and see if your EVO can see anything in the Wifi space. Did you do the update yet too? Is your Wifi on? =P

Only the obvious things, but sometimes we all miss something, so here goes:
1. Depending upon whether or not your ad hoc net is open or not, try putting on the notification for open nets under wifi setup.
2. If you must, you can hit advanced in wifi setup and enter in a static IP.
3. Pick up WifiAnalyzer (Market) and see if you can see more about the signal in question at all. This may help track if there's a channel conflict or something wacky like that (yeah, even though Wifi Buddy indicates that...)
Otherwise, I'd be wondering if the ad hoc net was set up properly ... yeah, hard to do wrong, but ...
I have no problems connecting to non-ad hoc wifi networks.
My ad hoc network is the only wifi network in the area, so channel conflicts shouldn't come into play. Wifi analyzer confirms that there are no other wifi networks broadcasting. Im currently in a hotel that only has ethernet access, so I'd like to set up my own access point so I can wander a bit (and show off ).
My Evo is right next to the laptop hosting the ad hoc network, and wifi analyzer shows a strong ( less than -40db) signal.
From what I've seen about the Magic, it looks like HTC disables the option to connect to ad hocs in the /etc member defining wifi parms, but I don't see a similar member on the Evo. Granted, I'm an Android newb and novice Linux user .
Has anyone else had any luck connecting to ad hoc APs?
I've never been able to get an android device to recognize an ad hoc network. G1/G2/Moment...... all failures. Now I must say, thats not to say you can't do it after rooting and tweaking.... out of the box, it just doesnt do it.
