Root Can't connect to computer

Hi All,

No matter how hard I try, I cannot get my phone to connect as a disk drive via USB. When I plug my phone into my computer it charges fine, and in status it shows as 'charging - usb' but I do not get any options for mounting or usb debugging. This has been happening on every ROM for the last 2/3 months. I've tried fix permissions in ROM manager, i've tried using three different cables and nothing works :(

I did read here - xda-developers - View Single Post - [ROM][Jan 30][ACE]Virtuous Affinity 2.05.0 Sense 3.5 based on Runnymede that there should be an app in system/app called 'PCSCII.apk' which is not in my system folder, and is apparently needed to connect to the computer. Does anyone know what this does exactly? And would it be fine just to download an apk of it and put it on system/app?

Edit: After posting this i'm not really sure if it should be in this sub section. Please move to the relevant forum if necessary

I've noticed something similar when I plug my phone in to my laptop with the USB cable that came with my wife's phone (SGS) - it will charge, but doesn't say that it is connected on the phone and I get a message on the computer to tell me that something "unrecognised" has been attached by USB. It doesn't, as far as I'm aware, do that with my wife's phone though.

I worried at first and went to get the USB cable that came with my phone and voila... it plugged in and registered on the phone/computer correctly... hopefully it could be as simple as using a different USB cable for you (although I'm sure you've already tried that) :o

I would imagine you should be fine doing that... perhaps the thing to do would be to make a backup in clockwork and then try doing it... if it doesn't sort your issue, you could always just remove it or, if it causes you a problem, you can always restore your backup :)

I think that you have posted in the right section... it's a root related issue, by the sounds of it :)

All I can say is - Doh!

I thought I had tried everything; what I did not try was cleaning out the USB port on my phone with a paper clip, which I did and now it works perfectly  I can connect to my computer fine now. I've just ordered an official HTC charger as I thought it would help!

It's also fixed the issue I had where the charger would fall out on its own all the time. Just a simple 1 minute job has sorted me out!

Oooops!! :o;):p:)

Oh well... not so bad then!! :D

Thing is, mine works with my (official) HTC USB cable and with my old Nokia one, just not my wife's Samsung one... I'm not too worried though, as it's only one that doesn't work!!

Well I got my official HTC charger, and now connecting up to my computer is fine, good transfer speeds too compared to the one I was using.

They sent it to me in this envelope, I thought it was a bit unnecessary.....

Was that via HTC or an official one from Amazon? I've found Amazon are terrible for packaging.

That was from the HTC website, and it got sent by Expansys. The package only contained the charger and an invoice, I started laughing when I saw the size of it!
