Help Can't connect to school wifi

My school has unlocked wifi for all students to access, but it seems that I'm the only one that cannot connect to it. My friends with iphones can connect to it, which annoys me greatly. When they try to go online their browser is redirected to a new page where they must login with their student id and password but this never happens on my captivate. I have one other friend with a captivate, and I will check with him tomorrow if he can connect to the wifi.

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

my school has the redirecting thing also. sometimes i get the redirect and sometimes i dont. i usually connect to the wifi and i just type in google.com over and over and it will usually redirect me eventually

I have the same issue at work, where it will sometimes redirect and sometimes not. The most reliable method I have found is to use a task manager like Advanced Task Killer to completely close the browser and then restart the browser (I use Opera Mobile most of the time). This usually initiates the redirect.

Interestingly, I generally don't have this issue with other WiFi's that require a redirect (e.g., Starbucks, etc.), so it may be a setup issue for some WiFi's.

same issue for me, ive found that while using the default browser i dont have a problem but using dolphin and cant remember the new one im using but anyway default browser fixed it for me.

Sometimes it wont redirect you if the site is cached. I assume you use google a lot so maybe that's why it won't redirect. Try typing in a site that you haven't been to yet. I usually fix my problem though by refreshing the webpage.

I have exactly the same problem actually: iPhone users never have a problem but all Blackberry, Android, and Win7 users can't get on my schools wifi.
I told tech services about it (because I only have 200mb a month plan and I kinda need wifi or I'll be paying overage fees) and they said they were working on it... 3 weeks elapsed since the last time I heard from them. Also, unlike some of the posts above me, I can never get to the redirect page on my schools wifi (I haven't tried any other browsers).
I have no solutions unfortunately, I'd just like the chime in with a classic "I feel ya"

This has been discussed before. The Eclair build AT&T used for the Captivate has a DHCP netmask bug. Froyo fixes this problem.

This prevent Captivates from talking with most enteprise class access points (Cisco APs) thats most schools and businesses use (class 3 networks). Your phone will connect, but cannot recieve or send data (it does work in maybe 1/20 tries).

Aftermarket ROMs fix the issue, although the bug was recently reintroduced in Cognition 3.04.

There is no workaround with the stock ROM.

Another instance of having to hack your phone and flash an aftermarket ROM just to get your phone to function how it should have out of the box. WTG ATT.

I have this exact problem. My service sux in my school so I was very excited to be one of the few staffers that was able to wrangle the wifi password out of our tech guy. He told me that due to the way our system makes him setup the wifi Android phones, including his will not connect. Facebook, NFL.com, weather services are just a few that will not connect. I was told there is no known workaround for this. guess i will try froyo....?
