Android Question

This is absolutely driving me crazy. I have a Droid Razr Maxx HD that I bought recently, running Android 4.4.2. When I go to compose a text, I use the Google voice input button and it transcribes my voice. Invariably, it will screw up a couple words. On my old android phone, I would simply click the place where the text was wrong, backspace, and type in the correct text manually. This phone won't let me do that. I can place the cursor, but it's like the keyboard is locked. I can't erase individual words placed by Google Voice or type anything new. If I put the cursor at the very end of the paragraph, sometimes it will let me erase the whole paragraph, but that's not helpful because I have to start over and I have the same problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My old phone was a million times more intuitive to use than this thing. I'm either going to get this fixed or toss this phone in the nearest body of water.

THANKS.

I just tried it with SwiftKey keyboard and could place the cursor anywhere and delete/edit words and letters "typed" by voice input so if you're willing to change keyboard, you won't find much better than SwiftKey :thumbsupdroid:

PS why the Android Central link in the "driving" hyperlink?

Are you using the stock keyboard? If so, have you cleared cache and rebooted the phone? It seems like your keyboard is probably lagging/freezing up. Hard to say without seeing it in person.

Swiftkey is a great alternative as suggested by Funky

Thanks for the replies. (I just signed up here, but I'm the original poster).

I'm using the stock keyboard. If there's something that works better I'm happy to switch. I have not cleared the cache. Is this a cache specifically for the keyboard, or just a general system cache? If you can point me in the right direction I'll try it. I have restarted the phone (a few times, as this has been going on for a while), but it didn't seem to help.

I'd just batter in and use a new keyboard like SwiftKey or Google tbh :thumbsupdroid:
But to clear the cache of your stock keyboard, go to the phone's Settings, Applications, scroll across to ALL, find the keyboard app, tap on it and "clear cache"

PS @ideas,you still haven't explained the link to AC in your first post mate?

Not sure where that link came from. I didn't insert it, at least not intentionally.

So, did you end up switching to Swiftkey or Google Keyboard, or did you try clearing cache as explained by Funky?

I use both personally.

I cleared the cache and it does seem to have helped. Unfortunately I've not texted enough the last day or two to give it a good workout, so I'm not sure yet if it's totally fixed. If the problem resurfaces, Swiftkey will be my next move. Actually I may try it anyway just to see if I like it better.

Many thanks to all who helped.

Cool. Once you try SwiftKey your never go back. As long as your thumb hits close to the key you want, it usually predicts the word pretty well plus it can "scan" your Facebook, Google Plus, Gmail accounts to learn your slang and commonly used sentences/words :thumbsupdroid:
