Can't Create New Threads

I am sorry, and I don't mean to use this site in the wrong manner, but does anyone know why I would not be able to create a thread? I am a new user, so that might be why. Any info would be appreciated.

I did try searching and was unable to find anything on the subject. Thanks for your help!

colobuckeye - I moved this thread for you so hopefully someone can see it.

Can you please let us know what happens when you try to create a new thread. What section are you trying to create the thread in?

Thanks for writing back Stigy! I am trying to create a thread in the classifieds as I am hoping to trade my phone. When I try to create the thread I get the following message:

colobuckeye, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

  1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
  2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
Thanks again for all your help!

FYI: You must have a post count of 25 to use the Classifieds forum.

haha. Its all well and good having a 25 post count lower threshold, but when they know the threshold, they go straight away and pass it just to post the ad anyway. Does that not remove the point of having a threshold?

Not that I doubt the OP's intentions or anything but still..

FYI, the post threshold is known and mentioned in the Stick in the Classifieds section.

Perhaps it would be a fair idea to not make it well known, but it does help. I'm convinced it stops many drive-bys.

You mean some people read 25 posts and think "Stuff that" and don't post? Yeah that's possibly true.

I just think a target that is known is easier to hit (producing unnecessary posts in the process) by those whom can be bothered (OP not included) particularly if its an easy target to drive at.

Something worded more along the lines of "only established members can post adds" would meet the same criteria?

Well the point of the post count restriction is that only contributing members of the community can post in there.

So if someone makes 25 junk posts just to bump up their post count, then they stick out like a sore thumb and we'll remove them very quickly. If their posts don't stick out, then they must have made 25 reasonable posts and we have no reason to stop them.

Yes but you guys are busy. It would not be human to pick up on all of those.

I see it like this...

The "25 posts? Stuff that!" people become "Established member? Stuff that!"
Nothing lost nothing gained

The "25 Posts? Yeah I could do that!" people become "Established member? Stuff that!"

The "25 posts are junk, I better moderate your ass" people become "I'm happy moderating other things right now because someone came up with the bright idea to slightly reword a publicised criteria for posting classified ads so now I don't have to look out for members with 25 posts posting ads"

Surely that's a win?
